FLowaMasta's Jack x Skunk 1 plant 600watt + UVB Monster scrog

Flows masts quick question on the UVB light... I'm planning a little micro grow for trial and error with a 150 watt hps! Do you think it would be ok to still run the repti glo 10.0 or should I go with a 5.0?

Haha flowamasta* damn auto correct! Btw 1 plant under the 150. Dunno if that matters...

put it this way, the pgr would help with the manicuring process for sure!! Naturally my heads have more tippy leaf on them, but over-all the quality can barely be compared, potency is truly out of this world, i can barely do anything i'm so bloody high :p

I constantly get told ' man you look wrecked! ' yeah i know i say..... good erb ;) I Think PGR's can be ok, used at minimum strengths and nowhere near specifications. It makes the buds 'unnatural' but The Part A would be very useful for ome stretch sattie strains for sure. Part B is a bit of a gimmick i think. 1 ml maybe..... certainly not 3ml..........

Thanks for the info Flowa. I am just waiting for one of my rooms to finish and then i am going to do a copy of your setup. Was that a 1200lt/hour water pump you use watering? And if so, would that be big enough to water 2 plants? I already have them in 50lt pots but will be upgrading to 2 a air-cooled 600's. I am keen to give your hempy method a trail! I will proberly have some more questions for you down the track. Thanks again Flowa.

I found my answer in your Methodolgy page mate. Cheers

So it seems Flowamasta has started a trend; buying CFL UVB bulbs! just to confirm before designing a bigger layout; what's the current consensus on the use of UBV in general, and these little cfl UVB in particular?

Hello flowamasta!
How have you been? Any plans to start another journal?
I have been using the Exo Terra Repti-Glo 10.0 Compact for about a week and I can already tell you that these bulbs are helping my garden! My plants few days before adding the UVB bulbs were yellowish and looking sad. They're in the 2nd week of flowering and looking amazing compared with last week. They look so green and health, the leaves are very dark green and shinny. I added 4 Exo Terra Repti-Glo 10.0 and I may get 2 more. I have been running them for 6 hours a day, HPS fires up at 9pm, 12am the UVB kicks in for the next 6 hours and at 6 am it turns off and just the HPS continues.
I will start a journal pretty soon and I hope get some snowing in my room like you did :)
Thanks again buddy!

In particular? Do you mean what they are actually designed for right? if so they are for preventing bone disease in reptiles that might not need the added heat from Infra red....

But for plants i have read many great pages on the science behind trichomes, sugars and natural weather inhibitors that protect some plants from high temps or windy conditions and even tolerance to bugs by trapping them in the dense resin patches in the flowers to stop them attacking the inner workings of seed stages or chemical production. The fact is many plants produce trichomes, there are glandular trichomes and that of the same nature as a 'hair' and many other types they are all designed for trapping insects and protecting the plants in 1 way or another and they are created from the sugars of the plant... there are many easy to find pages on people testing UVB, have a quick google search, you may even come up with a few pics of mine ;) I can't go posting links as i've had them removed before for some reason... sorry :(

Sorry been away guys, i've got a methodology thread going on at Rollitup and have a busy schedule in life at the moment, I will start the thread shortly and will follow up what and and how i've started the new grow ;) Lets just say i got a nice new just slightly larger tent new ducting and cooling setup for the hot summer ahead, and the clone is a cutting from my last harvested grow and she's been growing in a box with another girl for the entire flowering stage and then some, The lights i was using were special gro-lux tubes both a 3000k and a 5000k ad they produced really nice little bushy plants, but they wanted to bud so i got them out of their pot planted 1 outside and the indoor is 1 week into growth... i will include a pic :)

That's great to hear man! Yeah they definitely change the colour of the leaves... i think the added Blue spectrum creates a unique connection to the plant, and cannabis for sure!!! The White pistils literally point towards the UVB lamps i'm not kidding! they love them and respond so well it dumbfounds me why more people haven't caught on, but it's starting now.... it really is. The pet shops love us

Here is my new girl she's been in the tent for 9 days this was a couple of days ago. she looks much better now and starting to perk up, she re-vegged fine the flowering had n't actualy started, just stunted her and created more viable shoots for ore growing heads! worked out Perfect. a couple of weeks and i'll be flowering again :p

Nice pics, and good discussion about UVB lighting above. If I wanted to cover a larger area, like 2.5m square, would you try it with these reptile bulbs, or go for something bigger?

Thankyou :) I would stick with low power high output simply to keep heat down they cover a larger area than they look, Mostly directed downwards like a torch with my reflectors but they do spread as far as 16-20 inches but exposure goes way down ofcourse, but the thing is with UVB is the artificial spectrum does not travel very far no matter the size it's to do with the frequency emitted changes the wavelength of which it is output. They need to be close for high exposure, but i could easily cover my entire tent with 4 globes and that would be overkill and temps may rise another 3-6 degrees at a guess, so timers would be a must so ventilation can keep up. I used to think high temps were bad, it's not combatting them thats the problem. You can have high temps but at a variable rate as it does outside. Too much heat creates stress so i'm always cautious of my temps. but with my air-cooled hood i got no problem keeping radiant temps down to next to 22-24 degrees and plenty of circulation to keep things as even as i can.

If you can find some different UVB lamps with low heat, sing out there would be many appreciative i imagine. There are fluro type but they aren't massive output and also contain mercury.

Don't kid yourself, the CFLs contain mercury for all the same reasons flourescents do- because they use the same technology. All HIDs do, and believe it or not, I think LED contains some mercury, but I'm not sure of that last.

Okay, what's the maximum distance from the canopy that you would want to hang one of these cfls at to get good results from the UVB?

Can someone explain to me how this bucket system works so I can make my own? I'm seeing two buckets. The first bucket acts as a res and the second bucket holds the medium...so what does the back pipe do? Is this a bottom watering system? is there a run off like on a hempy bucket to keep the plan from flooding?

If someone could draw me a diagram or explain this system to me like I'm 5 i would really appreciate it.

:) Wow Thanx for that! new information!! i totally was unaware, nor did i even think of that!! and after some more research it seems as though the more red spectrum there is the more mercury which is causing the heat making more red!! interesting...... not sure on the LED's still new and changing tech...

I like to hang my UVB within 6 inches of the Colas i want exposed the most, with the right reflector you could spread fairly well about 12-16 inches above the canopy, atleast then the coverage is spread if you like, or like me have selected colas for making more potent.... Believe me i'm starting to wonder why i moved the UVB around at all :( i like the idea of having 1 or 2 colas that have maximum effect. I say this because most of my erb is too strong for my liking, i like to smoke not just to get high but for the flavours and relaxation of it, and my stuff seems to be knocking me out all the time. I really put it down to the UVB lamp changing the effect considerably!! I've been onto my old outdoor again now and then because i find myself losing days here and there. I did go an extra day or 2 in flower, and i thought ripening was on par maybe a little more, but this is CRAZY. My recomendation? do 1 or 2 buds first to see if you like the effect. You will be SHOCKED i guarantee you.

So sorry for the non-existence of me lately it actually takes an effort to do anything more than thinking. I go out and can;t even talk ti people cause i look half dead and as high as the hills lol!!!

sorry i don't have any diagrams but i can explain :)

The reservoir is completely separate. The 2 pots sit above the nutrients level. The inside pot has a pot sock, perlite and hydroton. The inside pot sits a couple of inches above the base of the bottom pot. I automatically feed via a 24hr/15 minute timer, it cycles every 2 hours for 15 minutes a feed and goes directly to the top of the inside pot which is filled to the brim with 100% perlite. There is a feed ring at the top around 10 inches in diameter and as it drenches the perlite it flows directly down with gravity down into the bottom hose which returns into the bottom section of my SEPARATE res. All automatic, it is a mixture and custom made hempy/dwc/aero system. The inside pot has 4 large drainage holes and the potsock holds all the petlite and layer of hydroton in :)

update people!!! Jack x Skunk!!!!!

Day 22 Vegging cloning tomorrow, flowering before you know it :p

Thanks a lot for clearing that up for me. I thought this was a passive wick system which is more what I'm planning. I'd never seen a plant so large in perlite. Truly inspiring! I'm going to try my hand at two 20 gallon plants each under a 1000w but with a simpler drain to waste system.

G'day Flowa, Your looking at another bumper crop there mate. Shouldn't expect anything less from you though;)
I have set my new room up your style mate. I am just waiting for my Gravita Pro 1000 to get here, hopefully monday. I will put up a few pics when setup.
I also made my first batch of shellite honey oil. I used 4 gram of good buds, a mix of The Ultimate and my Karragullen. That shellite really dose bubble up quite a bit and quickly. A few pics for ya mate:)

I cant seem to load up pics, will try later

Some shellite honey oil pics. The fist pics was taken today, 2 days after i made it.

This pic was taken while i was purging. I heat and cooled a dozen times or so.

The stuff works a treat. Great for a night cap. I had more pics to put up, but it took hours and many failed attempts to get these two up!

cheers, chipper pig

no problem! I don't see a much more simple system out there, but whatever suits your needs and works for you go for it :)

Looking great flowa! Nice to see yu here as well
Thankyou :) I'm so Jack'ed :p

Helllllll Yeeeeeeeeeeah!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!! awesome first attempt, you could try extracting at a slightly less temp or for a little less time, many different extraction strengths and consistencies to play with. The quicker the extraction will produce a more pure and shardy type crystally hash :) my favourite

excellent pics!! you're the first other to finally attempt my shellite method!!

Thanks Flowa, I happened to be in bunnings to other day, and by chance walked down the isle with all the diggers products in it. The little pink shellite bottle just caught my eye. It is cheap stuff $7.50 a litre. I had this extraction in near boiling water for 3 minutes, and only used 150ml-200ml of shellite. I will try for the crystal hash on my next run. How do you store this sticky stuff? In the freezer?

cheers, chipper pig

lol, its a wonder chemical :)
You can store it anyway you like if you freeze it however make sure it's double sealed to prevent moisture getting in, but its to hard to work with cold anyway, really pure stuff will need to be heated quickly with warm water underneath or a quick flash of a lighter underneath then dip ya pin in :) i just keep it out of dusty areas, i forget about it sometimes find it a year later, and it still blows me like the day i made it. Unlike Bubble hash after heating this re-solidifies into the same waxy/glassy hash it started as.

Update on jack, no. 3! Day 24 Veg, topped over 20 tips!
