Your fun would be a headache to me. Lol. But, I understand. I have fun many ways growing. It's fun in itself watching it go from seed to harvest. Seeing if your work paid off. Seeing what different strains produce. It is complex, scientific, and watching something you created.I agree with the comments who’ve already posted, but would add that it’s fun. I like knowing what goes in the plant, playing around with formulations, seeing what works better or worse. It’s just another growing variable to play around with. Mostly, I like the set it and forget it. My plants take a lot of punishment being in a greenhouse and I never have to worry about nutrients or pH if I’ve done the soil right. It makes the whole thing easier. But, hey whatever works for you. Sorry I don’t have tips on addition for your mix, but there are several places you can send your soil to have them tell you what to amend with after lab testing. State extension services are a good place to start. Usually they’ll do it on the cheap.
I am halfway through flower on my 6TH cycle...same soil. All I do is add a few scoops of my feed before each cycle and use bokashi after.i noticed some posts earlier regarding reusing soil. Up until yesterday i was in the same camp of never doing it…. Every now and then i’ll read some shit posted by a grower that puts me right on my head, makes me question everything i know and consider rebuilding from the ground up.
Let me go ahead and say this is NOT my picture. I wish it were. This was a posted by a grower with the handle ‘Kegs’ on another site. 100% organic soil, reuses his soil endlessly (his words), amended with nothing more than a basic all purpose amendment with a few teas.

This is the pinnacle for me. Not just this plant, but the dude plastered pics of his grows and my jaw dropped. I can do healthy plants that are great quality, but the fact that he finds ways to get that much of his plants with no more than he uses is amazing. I dont get that girth from my flower oriented top dressings/ teas. And any time i did push them to get anywhere near that growth they didnt look half as healthy.
Anyways…… more than one way to skin a cat and whatnot

Ya you got a point there too.Not necessarily true. Old soil would be a leg up on new, given that microbiologically its already very much alive, which is vital in organic soils.

I forgot that part. But, what if you have ( germs ), I'll use that term, from your previous gro. Then you'll infect your new plant.

Organic soil gets better with age. The only way it goes bad is having to many worms that turn it to muck. Then you use it as the compost part of the next batch of soil.My biggest concern was it turning too acidic over time. But being that doesnt appear to be the case i’d say its over my pay grade too
I had a earth box turn casting on 6th cycle. The earthbox is a powerful tool. I switched to two 15 gallon pots in my 2x4. After this cycle I am going to go back to two city pickers. Same as earthbox just better dimensions for the 2x4. Going to run the build a soil 3.0 recipe.I am halfway through flower on my 6TH cycle...same soil. This will probly be the last cycle. I've heard of folks getting 10 cycles with an EarthBox, but mine have to be 90% worm castings by now. And I dont want my worms to starve .

I am too. But, I run it close, but not to much. Thats one of the reasons i use such a big medium, to compensate. And, my plant is mature, and probably filled that medium up with roots. I am notorious for overwatering and the SIP feature of these take that issue out of the equation.

It's partly organic, but not living in the sense that it is its own ecosystem. True living soil has bugs, worms, fungus etc to cycle new raw ingredients into fertile soil. It's not something that you would let dry out...ever. If I didnt cover mine with a plastic mulch cover, it would grow mushrooms and grasses and the predator mites (they just showed up somehow) might get out.How about frog. Isn't that's living ?
