Hi there im in desperate need of help i had bought 4 2000watt led lights but their main power draw is 80watts each ive just had a brand new fusebox fitted but i cant seek help from my housings electrician due to obvious reasons. I was using three lights originally which did trip the sockets switch in fusebox when turning them on but eventually stayed on so ive tried to add the 4th but everytime i tried to power on each light it would trip so i had to go back to 3. Im using a 4 point extension which is brand new now on reading the thing on top of light is stamped 2.5v surge now can someone please help as im now going to buy a 420w 1 big light or 720w big light now if i can run the 3 small lights and exhaust fan off the 4 point extension then why is that not blowing the fuse switch. Now im unsure what to do about buying the stronger lights. Im prob going with the omega proton 720w rather than the phlizon fd4000. Any advice would be very welcome thank you Jeffc

Most plugs run 15a max . Exceed that and it trips.
If it doesn’t trip things start heating up.

Depending on how the wiring is ran, you might be able to separate the rooms outlets and add an additional 15 amp breaker. If all the outlets are bridged, you have a couple options. If you are not comfortable with doing electrical, I would just find another outlet on a separate breaker and just split the power usage between the two. I don't feel comfortable walking anyone through wiring lol

With 320 W worth of lights you’re only pulling 2.75 A! If you’re in the states! Wonder what’s pulling the other 12 or 13 A! Sounds like something else is pulling a lot of amps on that circuit!

Cool as it was plugged into a double socket so i can use extension from other double output in same room yeah ?

Oh but all sockets are on one socket fuse switch

Could u expand on the 15 amp fuse thing as its flicking main powerboard switch which was renewed mid last year

If the outlets are on separate circuits, you can! A lot of outlets are on one circuit!

But if my fusebox is only sockets in fusebox then it would do the same yeah. Im buying a omega photon 720watt light will that power on or trip the box for sockets switch aswell. Im in uk thanks for ur help

is it always the same light which makes the breaker trip?

Uk should be the same principle for wiring. I would get a power meter for the socket and connect what you are trying to run to get a base line of when your circuit trips.

Volts x amps = watts
So if you have a 120 volts X 15 amps (check your breaker to see if its a 15 amp breaker) you should be able to run about 1800 watts on that circuit.
So as Oldchucky is saying, there seems to be other things on that circuit thats using most of the power. Flip that breaker off and see what shuts down, just make sure you dont shut off anything important like your heart/lung machine, fridge, etc...

Im sorry but i dont understand what u mean could u explain in dum dum terms i get the power meter and not so much the baseline i think ur saying the limit but sureley if its flicking switch at 320watts what chance do i have with a 720watt light but i am using a brand new 4 point extension thanks for helping ur a true soldier im a benchand carpenter/joiner to trade

It turns of all sockets apart from my cuboard socket which was originally the old boiler socket which i put a socket point in or actually paid an electrician to do

I Cant start wiring thats above my pay grade i just hope its the cheap lights i bought but im getting 1 light thats 720w so im near praying

UK I think is on 220 V! It should say on the breaker how many amps it can handle! Amps are what trips them! If you exceed the rated amperage, then they will trip! Hopefully! 🥵 some real old places, still use fuses, and it will say on the fuse what it is rated for! Like the man above said! To find out what is on the circuit you need to turn everything on and then flip the breaker and see what turns off! I guess the first thing is to determine whether you have breaker or fuses! Wouldn’t surprise me if the UK is still using fuses! Lol! Breakers you just flip like a switch on and off!

WE have came along way there breakers new box was fitted middle of last year its only my tv house phone and a fridge thats on then shuts down when i connect light but the lights say 2.5volt surge
