getting a heating pad for germination

i am gonna buy a 10in x20in heating pad to help with germination do i need to get one with a thermostat ? are will just a mat be ok

I utilize an inexpensive infrared thermometer. Germ temp being just one of many uses.

I say yes get the controller. I wouldnt want it on all the time. I got to dial in the perfect setting for my space. Which is 82 degrees. Keeps my container at 78 mostly.

You don’t have too. I only use mine in the winter when taking clones out of cloner and planting into pots for a week or two every 2 months. My heating pad is close to 20 years old.

i like to average about 75-78 degrees but the setting may depend on the temp of the area you germinate in.

you have to test it and see. Every grow is different.

mine has to heat through this tortilla warmer i have the sandwich baggie with a moist coffee filter inside when germinating seeds.

Yup. And i had to dial in the temp and then again for some actual seeds. Now they germinate real well.

I used to use my cable bow with a towel over it. Temps around 75-78f would be perfect imo also. Now I just stick in my room and air temps around 80ish give me root or media temps right in that range.

Even though i bought one..i do away without needing it.ive bought heaps of stuff that i dont use.
