Gherb's 1st Scrog Grow

Hello Farmers,

This my first Scrog grow and it has been interesting. I have learned a lot and I think my next grow will be much better.

This time I went too long in veg. My plants got too tall so I am running out of vertical space fast. If the stretch stops this week it will be fine. I lollipopped the crap out of the under brush. The canopy was dense and there was almost zero light penetration to the tent floor. I am on day 8 of flower (the stretch has only just begun). I plan on doing some defoliating around week 3. I am hoping that the thinning allows me some room to bend the tops down towards the screen so I can fasten them into optimal position for the remainder of flower.

My first indoor grow finished up okay. The quality was better than expected the quantity was less than expected. I hope to get more gram per watt this round.

Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Looks healthy brother..how full did u go on net when in veg?60-70% is normal then stretch shud fill it out.but there r those stains out there that u can truly triple in size.knowing yur strain n scrog is key.nxt time i bet u can man handle it..and however many days u tuckd i wud of tuckd at least 2 more days..ideally 8" above net u want yur canopy after complete stretch.but still looks awesome and lush.

Hey Gherb, where's the bud porn? Your canopy looked good, you filled up your space ok. The clean up under the canopy may have been too severe. But that's how you learn. What's the strain, how's the smoke? Fill us in. Kind of like going out for s date and finishing with a hand shake. lol

I have 3 different strains in the tent. King Tutankhamun - I love it (super potent and awesome structure)
Super Hash Plant - not impressed (won't make the next round)
Thunderstruck - CBD dominant (my wife's plant AC/DC X AC/DC).

I am going into week 3. It appears the stretch is slowing down. It could be wishful thinking. My light is just about as high as I can get it. I might be able to finagle a couple more inches higher.

At 21 days I'm going to remove most of the fan leaves. I think that will things out enough so that I can bend the tops down with the hopes to gain 6-8 more inches. If I can pull that off I will be sitting good until harvest.

The canopy amazes me. I stand in front of my tent with the door open for a couple hours a day. I am super anxious to see what this run will yield.

This is day 15 and the buds are developing a lot faster than I remember the last run did.

I want to add some Mammoth P to my mix. I am currently using the last of all the nutes folks have given me.

I have a Blueberry Headband clone and a AC/DC clone in my 2nd tent. They are already under a 4' by 4' scrog net. I got them under the net real early so I don't have to fight the height issue. I am running them in KISS super soil (just add water supposedly) and they look lovely so far.

I will post some recent pics of both.

If anyone has any suggestions to offer. Please don't hesitate to throw me some feedback.

Tent 3 - King TuT and Thunderstruck in Roots Organic Soiless. I am dipping my toe in the coco coir game. I have mixed feelings so far. I am sure once I get my watering system to run right I will love it.

this wrks..do it all the time.if u hav twine lighty tie them down and away directly to net.just remeber after there fed P&K awile them staulks stiffin up

So when I defoliate and bend, should it be before a heavy feed? I have been playing with how I water. Instead of feed-water-feed, I have been doing a light feed (600 ppm) with 25% run off and then a heavy feed (1700 ppm) with 5% run off. I check daily for any signs of nute burn or deficiencies.

The 1700 ppm includes my additives such as Terpinator, Rhino Skin, and a little Cal-Mag.

I dont go that high(just preference)so dont change things but i stay lower to stay away from over feeding.when u hav 8wks to make flowers a wk of recovery time is a LONG time.im like 800ppm until 6th wk in i push mine to 1100.im n dwc too.

I think my actual nutes are closer to 1100 ppm as well. My de-chlorinated tap water has a ppm of 200 and the Cal-Mag and Rhino Skin takes it up to about 600 ppm.

Do you think I should do a mass defoliation in one swoop on day 21, or should I pluck in stages? I removed all the under growth in one session. I don't want to cause any major shock that effects final yield.

U can take everything at once.but make sure to leave 8" or so untouchd above the net if that makes sense.u want yur fan leaves left on as long as yur guestmating bud size 2 b.8-12" id say

Sounds like if I have 16 inches above the net, I pull all fan leaves from the net up to 8 inches which will leave 8 inches of unplucked tops left?

I have zero leaves, shoots, under the net. Underneath the net looks like a waste land that was attacked by starving locusts. It made sense at the time.

yup...and nxt time u run that strain if u kno exactly how many days u tuckd after flip,do another 2-3 days nxt time.idealy u want just 8" left after the flip cause u shudnt hav to clean/clear any growth above nets,just underneath.least idealy...thats what u shoot for

Here are some pictures from week 4. I think things worked out pretty good so far. All 3 plants stopped stretching and the weight of the flowers are bending them down naturally. It is hard to break the "leaves are the solar panel mentality". So I chickened out on the full defoliation at day 21. I did thin out a lot of leaves and I feel I have good light penetration. I think the Mammoth P is doing it's thing. My colas are thicker and more stacked than last run. This is my first scrog so it could be the even canopy or a combo of both.

I am getting the yellow fan leaves again. I got them last run. I feel like it is a deficiency because yellowing at week 3 of flower just doesn't seem right. I added some nitrogen around this time last run and my friend freaked out. He was like "You never add nitrogen this late in flower!" I didn't add a bunch and it didn't change much so this time I'm skipping the nitrogen bumb and just plucking the yellow leaves.

If anyone has any advice on the yellowing, please share. Now for the pics.

Looking awesome!! I'm trying my hand at a scrog for the first time as well. Just one week into flower. I was thinking about the stretch and everything and decided to flip when the majority of the plants were two inches below the screen and let the stretch fill in. So far so good but I still got some stretching to go.
