GRAND JUNCTION (AP) - The Grand Junction City Council has passed a measure to close medical marijuana businesses in the city.

The council voted 6 to 1 to pass the ordinance Monday night. Mayor Teresa Coons was the only member to vote against it.

The ordinance requires that all dispensaries and other pot businesses shut their doors by Jan. 1, 2011.

However, the Grand Junction Sentinel reports that dispensaries are prepared to fight the measure. They plan to petition the council to reconsider and they could also push for the issue to be put to voters or challenge the ban in court.

Hmm... this sounds hauntingly familiar. But we've gotta add the California flavor to it and say something like... No way!

The "California flavor" was added to the MMJ mix in CO last Summer, seamaiden.

And that's why, IMO, we are now being served Shit Soup in this state on nearly a daily basis.

wot a mess...

Yet people in non-legal/non-med states are ALL about Prop 19, as though California passing it will suddenly make a difference in the Carolinas.

Backlash, it's what's for dinner.

hot weed elfs in ads and $5 joint signs being waved by the burrito lady really screwed it up. A few bad apples spoil the cider.

I can't wait for the hot half naked girls to be out of MMJ advertising and mags. even TY has it.

fuck, if I want porn, I can get porn. my wife would kill for a non-sex oriented pot mag. almost kicked for the TY subscription, but she's holding out

Tell your wife Sea gives a shout. I have a copy of what must have been put out by AN, there are only a very few other advertisers, mag is called Rosebud. I love the name, love the level of art, finish, etcetera, but it's clearly designed for male growers. Articles in there are about things like gaming and turning her on.

LOL, Dr.G..... I'm followin' ya there, fer sure.... gobble gobble....

and no disrespect meant, but what I was really referring to as the "Cali Flavor" is the run on opening dispensaries and how folks couldn't leave well enough alone >the good thing ALL of us had going< via Amendment 20/pre-1284.

fuckin A'...I best get back to the soup!

Plus there is going to be a vote of the people to determine if dispensaries can exist in the unincorporated areas of the county. It could be that Palisades has the only dispensary in the valley before this is over. And give that dude credit, he has gained the favor of Pali...I bet they do not let another one in town.

The argument (unsubstantiated by any data) that pushed it that way was that medical dispensaries will somehow make weed not only more accessible to kids but that it will somehow make them want to do it...cause it is good for them. This side of the state actually believes Tea Party type bullshit...that is just the fact.

It is actually hard to feel to sorry for them being eliminated when one got to see how they actually operate. To be fair though there probably were a couple that were run with integrity and actually helped people. For example, it is a shame the town has a VA hospital, that finally some of those guys could qualify and reduce their use of liver toxic pharms...and now it is going to be harder for them to find

On the other hand...it ain't all that bad for a guy that just wants to be a caregiver. A guy might be inclined to grow 48 plants outdoors next year and shoot for as big of plants as is possible. Harvest would be a little tricky

Wow, I think if a child thinks smoking pot is healthy the gov is fucking up by not educating them properly and neither are their parents. And they are good at passing the blame onto someone else.

How can they do this? Isn't this against the entire heart of the law?

Describe 'Tea Party type bullshit'?

Like the type of BS that it is not OK for the federal government to control all aspects of your life?

That it is not OK to steal money from taxpayers to bail out private businesses/homeowners?

That it is not OK to dictate how much salary is 'too much' for a private person to make?
