yes but no. leds produce more usable light soo your paying for 100W more but your getting i dont know like 70W of potential grow light.
600 used to be the most optimal from all of them if i remember right

Cost Comparison – LED vs HPS

Upfront Costs

  • HPS: $200–$500 per 1,000W system (lamp, ballast, reflector). Pros: Low entry cost. Cons: Requires added cooling.
  • LED: $600–$1,500 per 1,000W-equivalent. Pros: No extra cooling; spectrum tuning. Cons: Higher initial investment (may qualify for energy rebates).

Operational Costs (Annual, 1,000W Equivalent)

  • HPS: ~4,380 kWh/year ($525 at $0.12/kWh).
  • LED: ~2,628 kWh/year ($315), saving 40%.

Maintenance (5-Year Projection)

  • HPS: Bulb replacements ($50–$100 each, 1–2x/year); ballast/reflector upkeep adds 50–100% to initial cost.
  • LED: 50,000-hour lifespan; minimal maintenance (<10% of initial cost).

I have a 4x8, 2-4x4's, 2x4, 4-2x2's.....and I still don't have enough room. 😞
I feel like this will be me in another year. Ive got a 5x5, 2x4, 32"x32" and another 32x32 in the very near future. All in a apartment bedroom thats like 10x15. Im already thinking 6 months in advance cause my lease is up in August and want to get a bigger spot with more room to grow.

7 days later......after transplant and flipped to 12/12 last night. Looked to spreading roots to the bottoms of the pots now. Hope the seed plants on the left show sex sooner than later.

Started a few more of my Skunk Fritter, and have 5 clones from the Grape Skunk.....topped them all πŸ˜‰

I have no idea.....but have been really missing the old ways of growing. Back to HID, soilless Promix, basic nutrients, no ph pens, humidity the same day/night and temps the same day/night. I have tried and tried with LED's, even grown slightly larger plants.....for Me personally.....never the big tight buds. Always felt they were missing something
I feel ya mate. I've tried all types of methods. Tbh I've just settled with putting a seed in a pot of basic potting mix and watering it every day no fail. Can usually get whole runs out with no feed, no top dressing, no environmental management, no adjusting parameters. It just works.

The less I do, the easier growing seems to get.

Sometimes it's just easier to stick with what works for you even if most people swear by more effective methods.

Every time I try and grow by "the accepted literature" and make all these efforts, I get stunted plants. If I go back to a simple bag of potting mix and just watering daily with straight tap water everything is smooth sailing lol.

I met this old dude outside the chiropractor, next to a dispensary, bummin cause the machines went down so in NY you have to kick everyone out and lock the doors till your computers work. Anyhow this old dude didn't know the area and I pointed him to a couple shops and we got to talking and I was gonna send him here- but he felt he had no talent with plants sadly. Just happily started smoking again because he retired too. 27 year gap in his 70s.
