Hey guys,

Getting into growing my own personal cannabis here in the UK. Been doing a good amount of research into the types of different grows, equipment etc. My limitations are size and time...no limits on budget. Ideally I want to keep the grow box no more than 3-4ft tall and would need a good odor eliminator to keep it discrete. I know all the smart grow boxes are pretty much terrible for yield and anything growing related, but are there any ready to go kits that come with all the stuff I need rather than piecing everything together manually.

Also - I travel every now and then for about a week at a time, will I run into any major issues if I am unable to tend to my plants for that week? Are there any smart devices that can control the watering, monitor pH levels, deliver nutrients etc while I am away?

It's worth putting in the extra effort to order each thing individually, you'll get better stuff and save money. Here's a quick list:

  • 2x2x4 tent by any brand
  • HLG 100w red spec or viparspectra xs1500
  • plug timer for the light
  • 4 inch ac infinity inline fan
  • vivosun 4 inch carbon filter
  • a small usb fan or two
  • heater with temp controller and/or humidifier if you want
There's more stuff but there's a good start.

If you are leaving for more than a few days then you'll need a watering system. I don't know anything about those so someone else will have to tell you about those. It might be easier to get a friend to check on them too. You can get a camera so you can see them from your phone. For temperature and humidity, there's the inkbird controllers which work really well.

I would get a 4x4 tent β›Ί so you have room to keep everything inside.
Without multiple canfans you're still going to have odor weeks 8 and 9 or maybe its just me.
Odor is inevitable. I get it earlier than that, probably week 7 and later.

ok great! I was looking into this for the tent:

this for temperature/humidity monitoring:

this for pH monitoring:

what do you recommend for automatic watering? something with a built-in tank preferred as there will not be a nearby water hookup.

I set up my auto watering system based on cocoforcannabis.com DIY tutorial and it works great. I leave my grow for at least 7 days at a time twice a month and besides human error, everything has been running very smoothly. I suggest heading over there and checking it out.

Great advice above to source individually especially if budget is not an issue and @gorillaglueaaron gave a nice list. πŸ‘

I use cheap cameres by Wyze to monitor everything. Get a central display for all your temp/rh and point a cam at it. Or you can upgrade with wifi smart plugs and get all that info on an app on your phone.

There's also a lot of good stuff about lighting there too.

And If you do decide to go coco/hydro add an EC and PH pen to the above list to measure your nutruent solutions πŸ‘

Cheapo EC unit is fine. DO NOT go cheap on the PH pen. You will wind up replacing it in a month.

I recommend it for soil too. pH strips will always be reliable and will never break but it's hard to be accurate when using them. I got a vivosun ($25 for both) pH and ppm meter recently and it's much easier to use than the papers. I started out with a relatively expensive ppm meter but I didn't realize it had a hole in the top so I slightly submerged it and there went my $60 down the drain.

thanks for the info guys!

do you recommend going soil or hydro for this setup?
Soil is more forgiving so if you make a mistake, it will probably fix itself or it will be easy to fix but hydro grows faster and is easier to flush.
