Grow light color spectrum question

By they exploded you mean they stretched more? Because thats not desirable and thats precisely why I use full spectrum, so they dont get as tall and they get more bushy. That said if you like tall plants there's nothing wrong with it but using just blue is gonna make them stretch more, meaning the lower buds will get less light. Ive already been through blues, reds and even pink and theyre long packed inside a box but thats just my experience.
No, they bushed out. Pushed out them huge fan leaves. It also seemed to speed up my topping recovery. Again, this might all be in my head. But I swear it did. Maybe I should time next time. Red light is what encourages stretching.

Red light doesnt encourage stretching, is the lack of blue and other colors in the spectrum that encourages stretching. Red light encourages robust growth and flowering. With cool white you have more blue than red for veg and with warm white reinforced with red you have more red than blue, but you want both in both stages, and you also want cyan, red and yellow, which blue and red leds alone dont have.
I have done my fair share of experiments in the past with blurples and my experience is: theyre stored for emergency use, full spectrum gives me way better yields. That said I have not tried every blue panel in the market but no reputable brand that sells panels for growing weed will sell you a blurple, its usually chinese cheap brands.

I've got a pretty inexpensive KingLED that doesn't even have Dimming capability that provides supplemental light for my photos year round. because there are times of the day both vegging and budding plants are in there together, I toggle both the bloom and the veg buttons and everybody is happy. I did full indoor runs when I first got the light a few years back and found the bloom only "red" light did pretty good when I wanted to take a plant late harvest but honestly I'm thinking the only way I benefited was I wasn't wasting electricity powering extra lighting at wavelengths the plant had absolutely no need for. It didn't make things danker, it just did it's job.

"extra lighting at wavelengths the plant had absolutely no need for" I beg to disagree, its proven that plants use all colors in the spectrum from 400 to 700nm as they should because theyre plants and thats what the sun gives them so thats what they use. I also linked an article which leads to another article on why green light is imporant contrary to what was thought.

In fact green light is as effective as driving photosyntesis as red and far red light. Green light is the light that will penetrate the most too, so it will give more light to lower nodes or right below the colas. Using green light during the dark period is not good for the plants, many people still think they can get away with it. The only reason they do get away with it its because those bulbs are usually very low wattage so it doesnt disturb them enough as theyre used to a little light at night because the moon gives them light at night.

Well maybe I need to go do some more research because the way I've heard it is yeah they use light in that full range of wavelengths but not at the same levels through all growth stages. So, being the penny pinching sumbtch I am, I took that to heart that making lights to accommodate variables in your settings wasn't done to make your dope more killer, but rather to allow you to grow good dope without burning up a bunch of electricity you don't really have to. Silly me I guess.

Hm I get what you mean but no, I think the only thing cheaper is the panel itself as theyre way cheaper than full spectrum. I mean yes you will need slightly less wattage if you use only blue because blue and red are the 2 essential colors but I dont think its worth it as to what youre saving compared to what youre losing in performance. Bluerples gave me more stretched plants, always, more internodal space and less bushyness than full spectrum, thats why I dont use them anymore and almost nobody does as you can see in the forum. The usual LED brands for weed wont sell you a blurple either. That said if you have a full spectrum and you wanna add some blue because your panel lacks some blue for veg and then you wanna reinforce with more red diodes in flower thats not a bad idea but without losing the full spectrum from whites.

He’s got a lot more on light also! If you want to get into the egghead, aspect of it!😁

Probably soon panels will have cyan diodes too. Some brands are doing it already but its still being researched, a study showed improvement compared to full spectrum with just white and red, apparently cyan might be important too but its still inconclusive since we need more studies.

Uh... the light I have IS full spectrum and has bloom and veg toggles that offer full spectrum but just more of one or the other depending which way you toggle or you can toggle both and it gets full amounts of everything. Glad to hear they put all that extra effort into the design based on nothing but junk science and a marketing ploy to give the consumer control over something that has no relevance to performance.
