Hey guys! Lots of great information on this thread. I've done searches and am having trouble finding a direct answer to my situation. I apologize if it's been covered I didn't make it through all 84 pages. Question for you room conditioning Gurus is would you guys lower a ceiling so there is not as much cubic footage to cool, or would I regret it. Another benefit to lowering the ceiling is there are offices above my room so I can scrub the air between them. It would also be nice to have accessibility for future electrical or ???

Currently have 14' ceilings to work with. Considering lowering them to 10 1/2' or 11'. Going with open bulb DE Gavitas. The way I see it if the lights take up 1 1/2' max from the ceiling. 3' clearance to the canopy. That leaves 6 1/2' for plant height. I try not to go over 5 1/2' currently. I prefer more of a scrog versus trees.

From what I've learned from you guys I'm going with (2) 3 ton mini splits for 12 open Gavitas, co2, dehu, etc. The room is within a warehouse so it doesn't have the sun beating on the walls. Might be able to add a couple more lights if the ac's allow.

Do you guys see any problems with this setup???

I don't see any problems with it but I wouldn't lower the ceiling much under 12' mine are 10'4 and it works fine . 2 24k cools my 8 light gavita with dehuey and burner no problem

Damn, that's impressive cooling 8 with 24k. I set a buddy up with 8 on 36k and his AC barely runs. Hopefully I can cool the 12 with just the one . I'll probably install 2 to be safe. I can always use it somewhere else. Are you doing anything extra to aid those results?

I hear you on the 12' height. That's the number I wanted to shoot for.

He has 2-24k units not one. Your setup should work well as long as your canopy is 3 ft from those Gravitas IMO.

@CannabisJohn
I'm looking to get a air conditioner to cool my rooms at the new place I got.
I will have one room 12x12x8' high
6 rooms that are 5'x9'
All these will be flower rooms .
I plan on using 6-8 600 watt lights in the larger room. Air cooled hoods.
3 each 315lec in each 5x9 room.
I found a Trane 5 ton outside condenser unit for $1300 new in the box.

If I get this what else would I need?
It says it ties into existing air exchange system (furnace & ducting) which I have neither.
It's this the right buy or should I get something else?

You will need the indoor units, the air handlers/evaporator. You will also need an HVAC tech to install it.

2-4 ton split systems in each room for 16kw and 2-5 ton split systems for each 20 kW room. Hang air handlers in room. If done properly you don't even need any duct work either. In the 16 ft room hang the air handler 10-12 ft off of floor depending on tall your plants get and how high your lights need to go

Thanks John!

Could I use some kind of multi split system to try to save money or would I need to buy six 5ton splits for three 20kw rooms.

It is possible to use multi-split systems, yes. But you may need to work with an engineer at that point to design your HVAC system.

Hey Folks,
I'm actually building my room officially starting today. Seems I've spent a fortune and haven't even gotten a single seed started! I've decided to throw a window banger in for now. I'm not running a lot of lights right off and this unit should hold me until my wattage increases and I need more cooling...

My question is... am I able to adequately supplement with co2 with this type of unit? I'm not ready to buy that equipment, but will I achieve an actual "sealed room" using one of these? Until I can get the co2 equipment, I would just run a small fan exhausting the room from the opposite side of the room as the window a/c, even when the a/c is running (?) to pull fresh air through too. Is this right? Will the window unit act as a passive intake or do I have to have a different passive intake from the window area?

The answer to that question will put my anxiety to bed. I know I need some air exchange if I don't supplement with co2. And I know it's going to get too hot here to "not" use a/c. Improper ventilation WILL CAUSE MY GROW TO SUFFER, and I can't have that.

So how do I achieve proper ventilation using a casement window a/c "without" supplemental co2? That is the ultimate question.

This is thread is an outstanding benefit John. Thank you for continuing to support us members!

If you seal around the unit properly you can achieve a sealed room. Or once a hour exhaust the room with a fan for 5-10 mins with a passive intake

It's simple. You can get 10 ton split systems and bigger. My problem with that is if you have only 1 or 2 units serving multiple rooms and a unit goes down then you have multiple rooms down. If you split your load in each room in to 2 units and one unit goes down it only affects 1/2 of one room not multiple rooms.

Window units don't exchange air from inside the room to outside? Judging by the smell blowing out the side of my house I thought they did.

No they don't , ideally they just recirculate your indoor air but they are sealed like crap so they tend to leaks smells outside, they usually have a outside fresh air damper that leaks a lot of smell also got open them up and seal best you can

Hi Cannabis John and community,

I have a 10x8x9high room. I'm installing a mini split. Going with a 2 ton Mr Slim 18 seer. I'm running 4 Gavita pro de 1000's in there. Sealed with co2 burner, 2 burner sentinel. I'm hanging an air scrubber in the room as well. Is this unit big enough to be efficient in cooling this system?

John,Is it OK to oversize a system to give yourself a safety/expansion factor or is it better to keep it right on the money(6k btu's per 1 k),Think i read that oversizing might cause unit to cycle on and off excessively?I have a 30,000 btu LG i picked up awhile back and was thinking of using it in a room ill only have 3k in for awhile but will most likely add to later.

If it's an inverter then it shouldn't be a problem.
