Grow room AC

With my grow room door closed and a 1000W HPS burning the temps have gotten to 110 inside the 3x7x8 closet. I have no plants in there yet just working out the conditions for a second and better grow. There are no fans or any exhaust fans. No cooler or chillers, nothing. I wanted to know if i could put a 10,000btu portable AC in the closet and get temps to stay at 78? or do i need more or less btu's?

That should be more then enough. U could likely get by with 6000-8000btu. I am an HVAC guy. Figure 4500-5000 btus/hr for every 1000 watts. Ur 10,000btu/hr should cool room below 75F w/o any problem.

It got up to 122 and steadied out there after 4 hours. Is 10k BTU enough for lowering a cloeset temp 44 degrees?

The 10k btu Portable AC should be fine. There are lots of reports that the portable units are much less efficient than a window unit or split system, so the extra cooling power will probably come in handy.
