@Gettnpacksin - after hearing the pros and cons of variable speed controlled fan vs. not, I'd recommend you get the variable speed. You can always leave it on 100% if you want, but you have the ability to dial it down for any of a number of reasons that might be advantageous to you.

@OldPine thanks for the recommendations on fan/filter.. as for venting I would love to vent through my ceiling to a vent cap that was to an old bathroom fan that was relocated. But if not I will be dumping it into the same room or the next room. Any recommendations on this? And also how about fresh air should I purchase a little fan to help suck air into the tent? Sorry guys for all the questions. I swear I'm spending countless hours reading ,watching and taking notes on numerous grows to help gain a overall understanding.

Totally agree. Most of the time, a room build will be cheaper than a gorilla. Of course, the nice thing about tents is that they can be taken down and hidden away if absolutely necessary (or if moving).



Another great point for Packs to consider. The gorillas do have a clear height advantage. They have expansion kits to make them even taller. Unless I've missed them somewhere, no other tent competes on height...which could definitely come in handy for sativas, especially if you have them elevated off the floor at all.

That said, I've grown some stretchy sativa leaning hybrids in my hydrobay without too much trouble. Of course, this required a bit more training.

Just described my current situatuon. Little neglect on training in time, my blue dreams blew up. Tossed a trellis up yesterday to help, in week 2 flower...itll be intresting how this ends. I Started a grow diary

If you have the ability to vent to the old bathroom fan or to an adjacent room, that would be preferable. But it's not the end of the world if you have to vent into the same room. You'll just have more heat to deal with and may want to find a way to get fresh air into that room so that the air being recirculated into the tent isn't stale. In either case, I'd opt for the insulated ducting so that you can vent elsewhere in the future if it becomes an option. It's marginally more expensive but worth it IMO.

You don't need to use a fan to blast air into the tent. The negative pressure created by your exhaust fan will passively bring air into the tent just fine.

Don't apologize for the questions! It's obvious you're doing your homework. You're asking intelligent questions and that's what these forums are for.

They have a habit of doing the bulk of their dramatic growing while our eyes are averted!

This stuff comes with a little brush making it easy to apply. Also it doesn't rub off over time like rtv. Dries with a hard coat to it. I know all about rtv lol, was an Audi tech for 11yrs. Don't miss turning wrenches at all

Is this a good way to set up the light and filter? . Obviously the filter will be up higher and have the fan mounted outside the tent exhausting outside

I would not place the inline fan after the bulb. That will expose it to too much heat while speed controlled. Inline fans cool their motors with the incoming air. And if that air temp is above manufacturers spec you will reduce its operating life.

Also if there are any leaks between the charcoal filter and the
Inline fan you will have non scrubbed air sucked outside the tent.


If you place the inline directly after the filter it will not be exposed to the intense heat thrown off by the bulb. Meaning it's speed could be turned down without adverse consequences.

Also since it's blowing already scrubbed air through the ducting in the tent. If there were any leaks on the way out. The filtered air would just re-enter the tent to be cleaned again lol.

That makes sense. thank you. I wanted to run air-cooled venting on the light but the tent I ordered for some reason doesnt have the venting holes on each side of the tent, so I figured something in this route was my only option.

Also I will be taping all the seams on the venting so that should help

If your filter is too low it will leave a layer of heat in the top of the tent bringing the overall temp higher.

No 2nd fan needed. Ive got a 420cfm inline hung in top right corner ventin out port. Have a carbon filter outside bottom left of tent with ducting going in port. Anything getting in to tent goes thru there first. Dont hse any intake flaps n keep mine sealed. 420 cfm dialed down to low area causes a lot of neg pressure. My thoughts are fresh air is sucked in bottom left, goes across tent and up to the inline on other side. Hope advice helps ya out.

Theres no exhaust ports on it?? Can u link the tent? sorry if posted it already i may of missed it

Strange ventilation layout....I've only used the 4x8 hydrobay, venting on it was pretty standard. Looks like I would setup my intake fan on the lower 8in hole and exhaust through the 10in hole on the roof of the tent. Even if using a passive intake it's good to put a piece of duct in the intake hole with a filter attached to the end to give somewhere to draw fresh air that's HEPA filtered.
