LOL @Ponky, dude, you need to smoke some. Easy Brah.Hi everyone, this is my first time posting here. I did some research and can’t find a solid answer. I’m a beginner, but not a first time grower. I have a good amount of personal grows under my belt, but could definitely use more experience. So my question is:
I recently harvested my gorilla glue autos. Out of 4 plants that have been dried and cured I found 3 mature seeds. I have no idea which plant they came from, but the plants were all the same strain. I’m waiting for a new batch of seeds to come in and figured why not try to grow the seeds. I got one to sprout a really good tap root and planted it. Am I wasting my time on this plant? I’ve read that hermied plants produce feminized seeds. Is this true? Also, if I continue to grow this plant, what are the possible issues I could run into? I understand everyone has their own opinions and strategies that work for them, but I’m really just asking if it’s worth my time, energy, and money to grow a seed from a hermied plant.
Thanks everyone
I grew a seed from one of my hermied autos before and the seed ended up growing into a photoperiod and was super vigorous but almost hemp/CBD like, the bud from this plant had some medicinal value but didn't get you really high at all it was more so a super easy paranoid sativa high still smoked it tho@ComfortablyNumb that’s what I figured. Grow it and see what happens. I was just curious to see if anyone else has grown a plant from their hermied plants (hopefully with proper care people aren’t getting seeds lol)
Honestly, I didn’t even notice that my plant had hermied until I was grinding up a bud and found the seeds. So far the plant looks super healthy. I just don’t want to waste time growing it if it’s not going to produce anything good and it’s taking up a spot where a proper plant could be in its place.
And @Ponky im not smoking the seeds man lol. Where did you get that from my post? Lol
When you grow a hermie seed you will get a bunch of tiny little seeds all through out the bud. Hermies are bred wrong. So they drop seeds. These seeds are usually female. But also grow buds they have seeds. So. If you grow herm seeds you will most of the time get seeds. Femenized strains are the worst for this trait. Do you mind little seeds? If not it won't be a problem. You just have to pick them out. But it's better to just get some better seeds.@ComfortablyNumb that’s what I figured. Grow it and see what happens. Oooh ok I gotcha now. Thanks for the reply. I’m definitely not interested in smoking bud with a bunch of seeds. It taste like shit lol. Reminds me of high school dime bags lol. I’m thinking I’m just going to grow it and see what happens as an experiment. if bud has seeds in it, the bud tastes bad. From the husks. Even if the seed is removed.
Yeah that’s basically what happened with mine. I had a huge grow. Didn’t notice anything off throughout the whole grow. But for some reason I was grinding up this one particular bud and it had 3 seeds in it. The entire yield from all 4 plants didn’t have seeds except for that one bud lol. Weird. I must’ve harvested right as it hermied because I can’t explain it any other wayYeah ive grown plants for over a decade that produced nanners from stress in a couple areas and only produced a few seeds per plant..if it herms well thats different as it has male pollen sacks with female organs and would produce 1000s of seeds..the odd nanner is okay long as there isnt a heap of them spread throughout the plant..these plants produced bout 6 seedsView attachment 1174335
If it was really really good weed. And you found like 1 seed in the whole bag. Maybe. But what you usually get is a plant that looks female. And every ounce has like 7 to 20 seeds. Or there's little clusters of little white hard seed pods right inside these decent looking buds. And it wrecks the taste. But if you have nothing else. They're usually female. But a hassle most of the time.Oooh ok I gotcha now. Thanks for the reply. I’m definitely not interested in smoking bud with a bunch of seeds. It taste like shit lol. With proper breeding, the herm gene can be pretty much bred out. Perfect example is the thousands of strains that have Thai and Colombian in the family tree. Most aren't nearly as susceptible to herm as were their ancestors. Each generation gets worse for sure.
Mine were due to stress not genetics so I concur & plan on using the ones I got, more worried about weeding out males than genetic herms.LOL @Ponky, dude, you need to smoke some. Easy Brah.
@Charlie1387, you can grow it, sure. It came from a hermie so it may create a hermie, but not always. Grow it and see what you get.
Some plants can take a ton of stress and never herm. Those are the best to breed imo. Its easy to spot males. Sometimes the herms can hide and you won't see it till it's too late. If you must grow fem seeds, the pollen should be from a plant that only hermed due to colloidal silver. Plants that hermed from a light leak, nute deficiency, hot-cold, or the dog farting should not be used.Mine were due to stress not genetics so I concur & plan on using the ones I got, more worried about weeding out males than genetic herms.
I gave my sister like 15 of them that I started growing just to see what happens. 12 got pulled due to either becoming hermie or male but 3 of them turned into some fine looking ladies that are just getting ready to be chopped. In my opinion...as long as you aren't solely relying on those seeds for a harvest, pop em and plant them outside if you have a spot to put them. Worst thing that happens is you end up tossing them.Hi everyone, this is my first time posting here. I did some research and can’t find a solid answer. I’m a beginner, but not a first time grower. I grew up in the 70s when just about all weed had seed so I'm not going to sweat if they happen to randomly pop up due to stress, I'm already sitting on way more weed (mostly seed free) than I can possibly use & this is just a sideline, more or less hobby so I'm not going to stress over the genetics anymore than I do the tomatoes that randomly plant themselves in my garden every year.I found one seed inside a bud I bought at a dispensary. I germinated it and started growing it into a mother plant. It looked female and was very healthy so I cloned it. It was super risky but I too was experimenting. Im about to harvest them. Here is what they look like. I havent seen any seeds on any of the buds yet and tried a sample of the smoke and its very tasty... In fact, the smoke I bought from the dispensary had shows it is organic soil not hydro. I flipped the mother plant as well an 3 dwc and 4 rdwc from clones of the mother plant. The Hydro smoke is unbelievable. the buds are twice the size of the mother plant buds. After reading this thread I'm sitting here thinking how lucky I am that the grow has come out the way it has... Good luck to you and hope you have similar results!View attachment 1174389View attachment 1174390
