Hello Farmers! I'm getting back to my roots and doing things the hard way again. Circumstances prevent me from growing in the house so the shit show will be in the backyard now. Space and resources are limited so this thread will mostly be about making the best out of a difficult situation.

I have a 4 by 6 resin shed from Costco, a 2 by 4 tent, spider farmer sf-2000 and Cali lightworks uv-b. Two 4" AC infinity fans for intake and exhaust and a small circulation fan to handle air movement. The intake and exhaust are piped directly outside bypassing the shed entirely. I'm going to try to run positive pressure in this setup in an attempt to mitigate the effects of hot air in the tent and help keep critters out.

That's about as far as I've got and will finish assembling it today. Hopefully in a week it will be tuned up and ready for some plants.

Got all the lights, fans and timers squared away. Fighting with the cameras and wifi right now. The shed is blocking everything even though the signal is very strong in the backyard.

With the intake set at 8 and the exhaust at 5 the tent has really good positive pressure, it's puffed out like a balloon. Even if the exhaust cycles off, the intake has enough power to keep the pressure and force air out the exhaust.

When the exhaust kicks on the flaps go max tilt.

Ok one camera works. The one in the tent cuts off when I zip it up.

Im obviously not going to run the lights in the heat of the day but I wanted to see what it was like anyway. Kinda brutal in there today but I expected that. I'm going to get a better screen for the intake, right now I'm using a cotton t shirt lol. Not about to be sucking every bug in the yard in there while I figure everything out.

Hydro and coco has been ruled out. This will be a soil run.

I took off the T-shirt and tripled up some window screen on the intake. The airflow is much higher now. I moved one thermometer to directly in front of the intake vent and the other in the center of the tent. So 78° outside air turns into 87° with the lights on. I can live with that for now. It's the same increase as in the house with this tent and light, about 10 degrees. Driver is always on top of the tent.

It just got cloudy and boom! Outside air is holding steady but look at the effect on the ambient temp in the tent.

We are buying a big sun umbrella for back here anyway so I'm cautiously optimistic this will work out. Maybe in the colder months the solar heating will work to my advantage idk. Let the shit show begin!!

So the shed is in the sun from 10am to 3pm. The lights will run 18/6 from 4pm to 10am for veg and probably 8pm to 8am for flower. These are my happy awake hours so that's perfect.

The uv is set for 15 min intervals at 8 pm, midnight and 4 am. There will be an additional 30 minutes at noon during veg to interrupt the dark cycle as a preventative measure against powdery mildew. Apparently, according to recent studies the spores are most vulnerable during the dark period and uv-b has been an effective countermeasure. I'm always willing to give new ideas a shot so why not.

I will incrementally add 5 minutes to each Uv exposure until they are getting 30 mins a pop, for a total of 90 min per day. The nighttime dose will go away in flower even though what I've been reading suggests it does not interrupt the photo period. Call it paranoia idk lol. Not gonna be left questioning my first run if it herms out but if I do get PM that shit will be flipped on for sure haha!

This first run will be F2 seeds from a sherbet/NYC diesel cross I made.

Thank you for the well wishes!! They will not get any air from inside the shed the way it's set up for positive pressure. It's like a balloon with a leak that keeps getting filled up. The air pushing out of the tent will keep the shed air out. Only radiant heat on the walls will be an issue. As long as outdoor conditions are good for growing inside should be good as well. Up until about memorial day is my guess. Then all bets are off. Probably take the summer off and get back at it Labor day if this try fails. I only need 2 good runs a year for personal stash anyway. My friends will have to deal with smaller care packages I guess lol.

I will also insulate the ceiling soon to prevent that radiant heat from getting in but 2 of the 4 walls are always in the shade because of the fence and nearby trees.

Not ideal but I can work with it. The story of my life tbh.

My biggest concern about what you're attempting is getting rid of the heat. I saw with your approach, you are too. I'd love to gain new ideas on how to handle this type of thing. It's a challenge and for me a portable AC unit would not work during the summer with my central air already running. My utility bill would go through the roof!

I've got my shed set up crude with a light and mylar, but 1) It gets too hot during the day because it's metal and would still have issues if vented, and 2) I'm a cheap SOB and I don't want to part ways with the free grow lights outside. So I just use my shed for supplemental light. Next week I can finally turn it off until late July.

You might get more manageable temps in that shed if you throw an easy up over the top and shade it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. These AC infinity fans are worth their weight in gold. Went to auto mode at 72 and 80. Outside temp is 64 and inside is holding steady as the fans cycle on and off. This just might work after all.

And I finally figured out the inside camera. It has to have its little ass poking out the side of the tent to work. I just stuck the front in and closed the drawstring around it. Works fine now.

Outside temp is currently 61° with 84% rh. It's been pouring rain all day. Lights came on at 4pm and the tent is holding the parameters I set really well. All that's left is waiting for the beans to pop.

I can see now that humidity will be my greatest challenge with this grow. Today during lights off it was equal to the outside ambient at 85% and that's with no plants inside!!!

I have an old Vivosun tent dehumidifier but it's a small peltier process unit and basically useless.

I will take the same approach I've always had and just roll with the punches until the wheels fall off lol

There's already a spot in the back left corner underneath that is only supported by some half inch plywood on top of the soil. I was too lazy and resource poor to add concrete or more paver stones.

Now you've got me thinking I can just drill a drain through the floor there. Maybe auto fed DTW coco is not out of the question after all.
