Politicians are busy this time of year blazing the campaign trail as Election Day nears. But one candidate — Anne Armstrong, running for governor of Rhode Island as a write-in hopeful — is blazing something different.
Marijuana.
“We’ve been lied to a long time by our government,” asserts Armstrong in her YouTube video. “And something that’s been essential to our health has been taken away from us.”
Armstrong, who is a medical marijuana caregiver and is running as a member of the Rhode Island Compassion Party, says she uses cannabis every day.
“Yes, I do smoke cannabis, and yes, I do inhale,” she says. “It helps me. It helps me to focus, it helps to facilitate communication.”
Before her work as a caregiver, Armstrong was an electrical engineer for Raytheon.
Armstrong’s opponents are Democratic state general treasurer Gina Raimondo and the Republican mayor of Cranston, Allan Fung.
