this happened to me to bro, made my oil smell real weak I tried to purge it some more after it was scrapped and collected by heating it in the vile. I did this after i noticed the aftertaste and smoke was a bit harsh and tasted nasty but I made it even worse!
now I'm doing another batch which will be my 3rd the 1st round went great I think I might have used too much butane my 2nd try, this time I'm gonna let it sit out for at least 48 hrs...

I use the yellow cans and get bomb wax its all about the material used.

theres still a ton of butane in my shiz, dunno what to do. doesn't seem to be gone after a month now. Stir it up and it reeks like butane, also it;'s obvious when it burns it has butane in there.

someone needs to share the technique, or answer some of my technical questions on the page before plz

maybe take a small bit of it and put a few drops of everclear or other high % booze (151) - and do a purge maybe it will take some butane out when it evaporates...

have u tried this? i have 99.9 iso but don't trust that in there seems sketch.

i meant food grade alcohol - but that MIGHT work too - shit dude just try a small amount - dont sound like its smokable now...

Not all strains will "budder up."

What strain are you using?
-some good strains are OG's, Bubbas, Blue Dream and most Kushes

Getting some of the Diesels to budder can be tough but they can still be made to be stable at room temps.

The thing that I'm concerned about is why isn't the butane purging.

A method that gives excellent and quick results is as follows:

Extract the oil into a pyrex pie dish sitting on bowl filled 3/4 of the way with boiling water.

Let sit until "visable" (liquid) butane evaporates. (usually 5-10 mins) When you can move the pie dish without the extract moving it's ready.

Scrape out the extract into a small pyrex bowl.

Heat the pyrex bowl on a coffee warmer for a few mins. Gentley but not constantly stir the extract. (Don't over do it or burn off some of the good stuff and you'll end up with a final product that is too dry. (You can always reheat if you take it off too early)

Remove the bowl from heat and whip. If it doesn't budder in less than 2 mins reheat and repeat.

I like to let it sit out for a few hours before smoking but I've smoked it at this stage and there is only the smallest
hint of butane taste. No popping or crackling.

I just saw the picts you posted and it looks like you're overcooking it. It's kinda hard to tell but if your oil is that dark it's not going to budder.

Are you using bud or trim?

Also try using something smaller than a flathead to whip with. Dental tools are great but a paper clip will work too.

Thanks for the help. Yeah My oil is mainly from buds, blue dream. The stuff I've made so far. Anyways I think I may have screwed it up. I did just what you said but after purging via hot water underneath the hash for awhile, I then stirred it up with no direct heat for like 5 minutes. I repeated this again for a week each day without heating it up.......................then I got to the coffee warmer thing.........It's ok if this just won't budder..........................but my concern is why there would still be so much butane after a month. Is it possible I locked in in there?

is there a specific temp to use?

once you heat up and budder do you remove from the heat? or does it budder first?


I got a ton of this hash and its burns black with butane.


thanks for the replies I was out of ideas so getting this stuff smokeable is my main goal here.


Also I have another bowl that is chunked up more (was from gdp) looks much more like wax as it is chunked up......but its just riddled with butane still after a month.....I never tried heating it as I was afraid its just melt into a goo.........the edges of it after a week were prime yellow wax, so I assumed once the rest dried out/aired out the butane it would turd the same.....only that never happened.

again gdp/chunky is in small round bowl in the following pic....

gotta get this stuff smokable!

Man oh man subie that doesnt look very good bro. my gobba goo is good to go in less than 2 hours:) How are you extracting, purging and whipping etc methods???
I am gearing up to do an insane oil run and will post you up some pics of how it should be.

as described in my post (purging methods), that pyrex on the right is a yellow pyrex not clear.

What brand butane did you use? I have never heard of butane getting "locked in" (doesn't mean it's not possible)

Is your extraction tube metal by chance? I've tasted some funky flavors from some DIY tubes. I also one time had a friend make some bho in a homemade metal tube that "sizzled and popped" when I tried it.

Not that I'm aware of. I also think it varies from strain to strain. You basically want to warm it not cook it.

It doesn't budder til you whip it. It does change texture slightly.

Thanks for the help, i was thinking of trying a short video and put on youtube maybe that'd help?

my oil doesnt look as dark as in the pics.

How many cans of butane do you run, i did 5 or so per tube which was quite a bit of stuff.

You used 5 cans of butane per tube? how many ml's each can? and about how many grams did you run this thru? that sounds like way too much.. I would only recommend using one can (320ml) per 24-28g of bud... I just did another run 28g packed tight one can and so far so good i'ma let it sit out for a day or two and try to get some of that hippie crack I seen in the other thread..

takes at least 2 for anything to come out. Did a few runs each being 2 of the large jars full of buds packed in there trimmed via a coffee grinder so super fine. Not sure how much was in each one but a lot more than a zip.

If I was to use a double boiler and whip the hash how low long roughly/what temp would I use? loW?

Try making a smaller batch and don't grind the buds, use them whole.

Which?, really you don't want to grind the buds? I'd never heard that before.


also wanted to say thanks for all the replies, I still have a lot to run so IM confident with your help I can get a batch into a nice texture.
