(Paradise White Berry x Sensi's Hawaiian Indica)

The White Berry pheno that I used as a mother in this cross is the bigger yielding, more fruity smelling and hashy tasting pheno that fades to purple. A pheno that I simply nicknamed, 547, in order to tell it apart from my other White Berry pheno, which also fades to purple, but has a menthol smell and flavor to it and also yields less than the 547. The male used is a Sensi Seed's Hawaiian Indica (Northern Lights x Hawaiian Sativa). I recieved an unsexed Hawaiian Indica seedling as a gift from a grower who was nice enough to donate it to me after I donated one of my strains to him. It was originally root bound in a small 2" square starter pot. I took it home and transplanted it and gave it some good tlc. As it grew I researched the genetics online and found this piece written by Marc Emery,

"The Hawaiian Indica by Sensi ( and that is the Hawaiian used in the excelent BC Seed Co strain, NL x Hawaiian, as well as the Classics Hawaiian Indica, Hawaiian/Kush) is like a summer day, dreamy. The big buds, that I can identify more readily that any other strain of the fat cola bud type, the pistils are often tinged red, rose, pink, (usally white), are wide round buds, offering great dreamy high and larger than moderate potential yields. Hawaiians indicas, somewhat like Thai indicas, especially sativas, don't handle stress well, so an already proven environment of conscientious grow room care should be the phase you feel you have evolved to in grow experience. A Hawaiian Indica really adds flesh to small yielding indicas ( I would like to see White Widow crossed Hawaiian Indica, I think that might have profound benefits and influences). Hawaiian Indica, in my experience, is a good medicine for the spasticity and pain ailments also.
Hawaiian Indica used to be more popular 10 years ago, when there was more Hawaiian outdoor available shipped off outside of Hawaii. With the severity of the Marijuana Extermination Program of the USDEA, Hawaiian outdoor is simply not found outside of the former Sandwich Island these days." - Marc Emery

The pheno that I had of the Hawaiian Indica grew single cola. Fat indica leaves. Branches stayed tight to the main stalk of the plant. Pollen sacks turned purple, as well as the main stalk and the stems of the fan leaves. And, pollen sacks were forming large tight clusters that resembled dense nugs. So to test what traits were passed on from pollen collected from this strain, I crossed it with a smoke that I know well. The White Berry (nicknamed 547), which was at the perfect stage of flowering for pollination, so I took a q-tip and pollinated a branch. I started 16 seeds and gave one slow starter away. Giving me 15 to continue working with.

I'm gonna keep making new generations of this one until I get what I'm looking for. Which is a potent, big yielding, indica dominate strain with little variation. Here's where we are right now. 15 of them going strong. My female selections will be based on yield, bud formation, and potency. My male selections will be based on resin production, smell, and indica ratio. And all future generations will be made by sib-mating.

Here are the veg pics:

First days of flowering

First days of flowering. Flowering began on 8/13/10, after spraying the plants with Serenade and giving them 24 hours of darkness to prevent them from burning under the lights with wet leaves. After the 24 hours of darkness, I gave them 24 hours of light just before I flipped them to 12/12. Plants were 12"-14" tall, and planted in about 2.5 gallons of ocean forest in 3 gallon grow bags, when I forced them into bud.

End of week 1

Almost the end of week one. 6 days of flowering. All of the plants just started showing their sex and 8 males were discovered. I left them in with the population for a few more days to soak up more light before moving them to their new location. Everything looks alike, so far. Big wide leaves, which are a white berry dominate trait, are a common feature on all of the plants.

Pics from day 6 of flowering:

Males in their new home (day 9)

Here's a pic of the males in their new home after 9 days of flowering. The color comes from the light that they are under not from genetics.

End of week 2

End of the 2nd week, beginning of the 3rd week. Welcome to day 14 of flowering. I removed all of the growth that wasn't getting light and left only the branch heads to grow. I'll be doing a controlled open pollination for the F2's on day 21. I'll be collecting pollen from each male and storing them in separate containers so i can test them individually later down the road. But when i pollinate the HWB females for the F2's I'll mix pollen from each male together into a blend and then I'll use that pollen blend to pollinate 2 branches on each of the females. This way none of the traits will get locked out in the F2's.

The pic with the poster background is one of the males. The rest are females in bloom.

End of week 3

I accidentally added the pics of week 3 in my last post. I'll edit that out as soon as my trial membership is over.

End of week 3 and the beginning of week 4. Day 21 of flowering. In the next couple of days I'll be using a q-tip to pollinate each female. 2 branches from each female (7 females total, all different plants) will be hit with pollen collected from 8 different males. I chose an open pollination to make the F2's because everything pretty much already looked the same. And, although they look homozygous...I'm not convinced that they actually are. So by doing an open pollination, none of the traits are lost. And hopefully, I'll be able to get a better look at some of the recessive traits when I grow the F2's... before I proceed with making my selections.

End of week 4

4 full weeks of flowering. And the beginning of week 5. Day 30 of flowering. I pollinated 2 branches on each plant last week. Now I'm just letting them do there thing til harvest. Bud structure is the same on all the plants, so far. Although, I did find a couple of females that are putting on the weight a lot faster than their sisters. But, all have a similar fruity smell.

Day 34

I had to tie plant #4 up tonight. 34 days into flower, at lights on, and she split right down the middle of the stem. It happened just as I started watering, about an hour before the lights turned on. She's definitely gonna be a huge yielder. I patched her up and watered her right away so she can heal.

Mother used in this cross

Thought I'd share some pics of the mother used in this cross. This is the white berry pheno that I nicknamed 547. It looks very similar to the other pheno that I found. But the taste, smell and yield are different. This one is fruity smelling when growing it. Hashy tasting when smoking it. The exhale reminds me of the smell of water balloons. I don't really know how to describe it. It has bigger buds than the other pheno. And, a bigger yield as well.

Other white berry pheno

And, here's a pic of the other pheno so you can compare the 2. This is the one that I kept calling "white berry". It tastes just like it smells. Which is a mix of berries and menthol. (Kinda smells like banana mana or grape or berry sweet sweeteners). It's really nice. I enjoy both, smelling it and smoking it a lot. Buds are smaller and a little more spaced out from node to node. They are denser, but smaller yields.

End of week 5

It's been 5 weeks of flowering. And, it's day 39 of flowering. I've learned so far which phenos put on the most weight and which ones are gonna finish faster. And, I've also learned that the traits passed on by my Hawaiian Indica male are: tall height, long colas, and big buds, and longer flowering time. I still need to document taste, exact finishing times, and potency. But, one pheno, (#4), looks like it will be done by day 56. The others may go 65 - 70 days.

End of week 6

This is what they look like after 6 full weeks of flowering. Day 45 of flowering. I started flushing them at day 42. I'm gonna chop the #4 pheno at day 56, it's the quicker one. And the rest of them are scheduled for day 70. I added a pic of the heavy pheno that I didn't show in the last post. Here she is after 6 weeks. And I also added some trich shots.
