2nd yr. Growing, and soooo ma y questions. I reaxing and learning as fast and as much as I can process.
Is "greenhouse" growing considered indoors or outdoors?

Thanks for having me !

That's how I look at it. No real light control, and only some enviroment control.
Really, the answer all depends on the greenhouse. I have a 10' x 20' hoop house that I would certainly consider to be outdoor growing. It has no permanent foundation or any realistic way to control the environment besides sheltering what inside it from wind and rain.

However, for a lot more money, I could have a greenhouse on a permanent foundation. It could also have heating/cooling/humidity control, and even shades and lighting that would help me control daylight lengths in any season. It would cost me a minimum of roughly $10K-$12K to build this kind of structure on my property if I did the majority of the work myself. I've considered it, but there's no real cost benefit to doing this when I can grow indoors in my basement without investing thousands of dollars. I'm in a legal state but my state doesn't allow legal commercial grows in a residential area. For me to invest that kind of money, I would need a return on my investment. The greenhouse itself would need to be built in an area zoned commercial and I would have to spend thousands of more dollars to get all the required permits.

...and at that point, I would consider it an "indoor" grow.🙂
I have a wood framed, poly panel 10x16. I have added an evaporative cooler, and a chinese diesel heater. These are just to "somewhat" manage my extreme temperature swings. Its not uncommon to have 40-60F swings between night/day. Additionally, when its 85 outdoors, it easily gets 120+ inside my GH.

The law considers it outdoors in my county! They make that pretty plain in the regulations! For those that still live where it’s illegal! Otherwise, I would consider it indoors! No matter! Indoors or outdoors do the best you can!👍

That's exactly my point. Once you have a permanent foundation, add heating/cooling/humidity controls its no longer outside. Your floor will be made from building materials, not dirt. It would be insulated and sealed so the greenhouse has controlled air flow. My 10' x 20' hoop house with a dirt floor cost me about $2000 to build, and then to modify to meet what I wanted. It would cost me 5x-6x that amount to build a new one and make it climate controlled where I could keep the average 70% summer time humidity out.

P.S. I'm in Michigan. I know all about 40-50 degree temperature swings in a 48 hr period.
