So I live in Michigan and my plant seems to have outgrown the container I have it in. Is it still safe to plant it in the ground right now?

Hey bud I'm just across the river from you. Sarnia. If you have been growing outside in the pot the plant should be flowering.
In this case just give it flowering fertilizer and let it bud up it's pretty late in the season for transplanting.

No problem you get any of that wild weather tonight? Weather radar is looking pretty wild. We have had a few pretty nasty front's blow threw. Do you have a flowering fertilizer in mind?
