So i looked at some clones i cut when i got home from work today ....Here are some pics ...Couldn't find any info on it.... Didn't do anything out of my normal routine..But I did notice when i took the top off the clones , it smelled sweet like molasses I think i gave the mom some molasses/plain water before i cut clones...Could that be it??, I've never seen this?? Any help is appreciated ... Maybe just throw them out??

wow never seen that. i was gonna say maybe if you bought em they might have been dipped in payola or neem oil solutions. but that looks differnt. usually if you dip them in to strong a solution the leaves will hook downward and curl under turning black and leaf edges get brittle. this looks differnt.

i would wait it out see what your new growth looks like

Yah...I've had clones that looked like that and they grew out of it. It seems to happen to me when I let them breathe too much too early in the cloning process.

Thanks so much guys!!! I'll wait it out and do a clean water change hopefully it helps ... I do a lot of random" research" but I've never seen this?? We'll see!!

I have seen this on my cuttings, and believe it to be tooooo humid under the dome, and/or the leaves are to wet from spraying. DO NOT Spray the cuttings directly, only spray the insides of the dome. Leave the louvres open to reduce the humidity slightly and/or offset the lid a bit to allow fresh air under the dome. And do not overwater the medium as it needs Oxygen also.

wow i never seen anything like that before. what do you think happened?

Sorry bout that,Wonderin!!! Looks like some kind of Necrosis or internal infection....Just PRAY you never see it again......
Peace FFF:harvest:

I'm not sure what it iis...had other clones right beside it that i cut at a diff. time and there all fine... Maybe didn't clean my scissors good enough and "caught" something . The others are fine though ....who knows??

I'll take it... 4 out of who knows how many I've cut before isn't bad ..

Thanks again for all the advice!!

my guess is shock or infection. maybe it hit a light, burned, then the humidity created some mold stuff. Sorry they are lost... how did it develop???

I stumbled over this old thread and decided to post in here, since the photographs are quite good to tell the problem.

I have the same problem for some time now and I couldn't figure out the cause of it....It makes me crazy.

In the Internet I can find a handful of threads where people have the same problem but no final explenation can be found anywhere in these threads. All guessing.

Can it really be, that people still don't know the actual cause of it?

I use 77pc. eazy plug trays, clonex rooting gel, with or without vermiculit under the trays, propagator with dome with heat mat but not using it since temps on the plugs are 22 - 23C. I loose at least 50% of the clones....🤬😭

50% is a decent amount. Yes most strong strains give you 98% or more successful clones. But I've had strains I've had to do over a 100 cuttings to get a handful of good plants. When I've seen them look dark like the example from 2010 I just toss them. I assume it's a fungus. Or bacteria. I like to cut way more clones than I need. And I only flip the strongest ones. I would just increase the amount of clones you cut.

As for temps I set my seed mat to 85 now. I used to use 77F⁰ but I find the higher the temperature the faster my rapid rooters sprout. Tall dome. Water in the tray. No misting. Root powder.

Since I postet on this thread, I did another few sets of clones and every time I had the same problem again on several strains. I tried different things like more dry, more humid, heat mat, no heat mat, soak in a waterglass over night....

Still the same problem....I really cant believe it that nobody really knows what this is....

I would personally say this is simply either over watering or over spraying the cuts too often.
Try and spray the dome only, not the cuttings. I've had this problem the last 3 runs. I had started leaving extra node leaves on the lowers to see how they went as always look pretty cool with more node sites. I think not taking into account the extra foliage and using my usual spray and hardening off routine has meant it is too humid.
I expected this could happen so will be lowering watering and opening the vents a gradually, sooner than I usually do to see if any changes

Pretty sure there is something called dark purple disease or something like that. Looks like the examples I’ve seen of it ?? I’m no pro !!!

I still have the problem, altough not as bad as before....but still. 2 days ago I cut off the top head of a clone because it turned to the dark color again that will ultimately make it rot with the hope to save the clone. Today, I checked the said clone and I saw a gel like color comming out of the cut area, loking almost like I dipped in rooting gel. Today the clones are 10 days old. Watch yourself....

Up until now, I thought it was salt build up in the medium of the mother and therefore to much stored fertilizer in the tips of the plants since I found out that in some of my 6 gal smartpots the ec was up to 3.4 (some pots soil/some pots coco 80/20). So I flushed until the ec came to a decent level and made sure that I water with enough drain....The problem was a bit better but now is worse again...Like 10% of all clones show the symptoms....

appreciate any help....
