Help needed with long term problem please

Hi all, I'm looking for help as i have had issues for a while, plants started to grow slow, leaves yellowed and dropped of, low yields, took cutting and they grow slow, stunted, low yields and leaves drop off, killed off all and started again....same issue, trying again please see pics, have previously tried neem oil and bordeaux mix, different waters, different ph, different soils, different lights, nothing really makes a differences. I am in uk with temps and humidity within range, indoors with air flow, everything use to be wonderful then it wasn't, plants in pics are 5 ish weeks old, stretched as only one cfl light to start now under 150w led, was a bit close so have moved away, all 3 are under different watering schedules and only neem oil applied so far and if anything it has made them worse, would appreciate your help over this guys as its doing my bloody head in, cheers. 3 issues off the bat ....

1) See the long spindly main stem? Most common cause is not enough light intensity.

2) Containers aren't ideal. They are small and shallow and likely leading to wet feet issues.

3) OVER-WATERING! Your plants look like they are being watered too frequently and not being given enough time to dry out.

Here's the thing ... with all the other things you've tried unsuccessfully ... those three have been over-looked. They are also some of the most common issues growers run into.

Answer to #1 - Improve light intensity
Answer to #2 - Move to fabric pots. Some people like air pots but I don't. They are hard to water sometimes.
Answer to #3 - Invest in a cheap analog moisture meter like this

And only water when the plant is showing 3 to 4 on the moisture scale. You want the soil to dry out between watering. Watering between 3 and 4 means things have dried out significantly from last watering without becoming too dry.

Look at how stretched that stem is ... Please explain to us why that stretch is not caused by a light issue?

Yea its definitely a huge lack of light going in what light are you running?

It most certainly is a light distance issue. From the very start with the seed germination that CFL needs to be no less than 4" away from the soil until it comes up and unfolds the first set of leaf. Then in about a week OK to put under LED at about 15". But you have to learn to read the plants issues before it gets to this point with yours now. Don't you see what other growers do with seedlings through to vegitation? And why are you spraying Neem????

Hi ya, i have water prob, been doing this for 10+ years, last 2 years i have had issues, potted a week ish ago from nursery, 1 watered till run off, 1 watered a little and 1 watered last night and that looks the best so i don't think its watering, they are not drinking much but they are not really growing much :(, pots are small but only just repotted and these are the pots i have been using for years, they are under 150w at moment but as stated light was limted at start. i had fungus gnats for time but that was long ago and they shouldn't do to much anyway as wasn't that bad, i thought for a while it was leaf septoria hence the bordeaux mix and that seem to help a little but that don't make sense with early veg plants, thank you for your reply as i need all the help i can get.

I would agree to that statement. You can start by accepting what some of us have to say. Yes, it's lighting. That stretched stem shows your plants have been trying to find the light. The length of the stretch says that they really haven't found their happy growing grounds yet. Yes, its over-watering ... see the tattered leaf edges, the yellowing? That's rot due to wet feet. Fungus gnats kind of seal the deal there ... fungus gnats thrive when roots are rotting. And yes, even after an "up-pot, those pots are a terrible choice. They are way too shallow and will impede plant growth. They don't dry out evenly either which leads back to issue #2 ... overwatering/rotting leaf edges.

I'm not trying to be a dick. Mine and all others answers have been given with the hopes of helping you through this situation. However, you seem to have a handle on your problem .... Grown for 10 yrs? Doubtful.

Nope not septoria it's a watering, soil retention and light distance issue. No offence but if you changed the way you begin the grow from the time you make a hole and cover it with light soil. I have a few gnats from my soil but would not spray neem on it and don't do it with the light on the plants either.

If light was an issue, why didn't you take care of it sooner? Why didn't you plant your seedlings in deeper containers to over-come that stretched stem? Now, you'll need a 6 ft deep pot (small exageration) just to up-pot again!

Start over and listen to what were saying. Just do it again it can be so easy, we are not giving you bad advice just learn from mistakes if you really want to grow a healthy plant.

Start with the CFL it's what i use for seedlings. But put it closer.

It won't matter where you go, any advanced grower will tell you the same thing about your plants. Some might be a bit gentler, but you started that by claiming you have more knowledge than you actually have.

Be honest. It's okay to be a beginner. Just don't tell growers who have been growing long term that we don't have a clue what we're talking about.

4 hours of study on that web site and you never would have used those pots and you would know how to water a plant.
The light you have will do 2 small plants. Based on your skill level I recommend photos as you can make up for lost progress by extending veg.
4 hours make some changes come back with pics and rub it in our faces.
