Anything you can add to the nursery soil to lighten it would be great. I've used rice hulls, perlite and sphagnum peat to lighten mine. Straw may help, but I've never used it. I wonder if the nursery would have potting soil more suitable that you could purchase? Ours has a variety of soils. If I was in the states I would go with Fox Farms ingredients. But I’m limited here. Plus we’re not in the city .
The nursery near us is very basic. In the city there is a nursery that has a “seedling” soil, but I’ll have to wait. It’s over 4 hours away. I think I’ll try the coco, perlite, worm casing mix with a small amount of the black soil. So frustrating …..Anything you can add to the nursery soil to lighten it would be great. It's worth a try. Good luck. And check the weight of the pot when it's wet, then when it's dry. Check the weight each day and water when the pot is light. But if you see the leaves droop and it's light, time to water around the outside of the pot.The nursery near us is very basic. Yes that’s good, I forgot to mention I’m running a Kingled 400w LED light. It’s 28” above my seedling. It's worth a try. Good luck. And check the weight of the pot when it's wet, then when it's dry. Your plants did well at first, from your pic, so I would continue doing the same again. Once they need to be transplanted then the new mix of potting soil will help. Once you get the soil and proper watering figured out you'll then be able to turn your attention to the other factors such as temp. and humidity, fertilizer, pest management, etc.Yes that’s good, I forgot to mention I’m running a Kingled 400w LED light. Yes I agree. Thanks again for your input. We also have a small green house, but obviously have yet to put it into use. We purchased this because sun is pretty intense at times. As mentioned I want to have 6-8 plants outside and 4-6 insideYour plants did well at first, from your pic, so I would continue doing the same again. So much to learn, and rabbit holes to jump down. LOL
Why are the lower leaves kind of yellowing? Is that like a Calmag deficiency? mine sometimes do that too and I've been trying to figure out what it is and how to fix itHello all. My seedlings are almost 5 weeks old. I upgraded to Kingled 4000 yesterday. The front 2 looked great yesterday now they are drooping. My light height is 26”, I water when the top 1/4 is dry. The back 2 seem small to me. Just good soil, perlite.my setting is on veg.View attachment 2680686
I've run the Fox Farm Soil without any nutrients and I had great success just giving it water with that soilIf I was in the states I would go with Fox Farms ingredients. But I’m limited here. Plus we’re not in the city .
Yes, I’m not surprised about 10 years ago. I grew a plant in my basement in the state. It got to be about 6 feet tall and all I used was fox farmI've run the Fox Farm Soil without any nutrients and I had great success just giving it water with that soil

Thanks for viewing my post. I am truly sorry JJ, but I am too new to answer that. I really don’t have an answer for you. Maybe if you Google it the information will help you..Why are the lower leaves kind of yellowing? that’s exactly what I used. Coming to the states in September. I’ll be bringing back 2-3 Fox products, along with other suppliesI like happy frog soil
it’s at 28”, recommendations were 18-24”.If they started drooping right after the light upgrade, they may just be adjusting to the stronger intensity. I'd raise the light a bit and give them a couple days. theseedpharm genetics are usually pretty resilient once they settle in.
If you're gonna buy coco, just use coco and perlite and a basic three-part, non-salt-based nutrient line. No sense trying to reinvent the wheel using multiple grow methods.I think I’ll try the coco, perlite, worm casing mix with a small amount of the black soil. So frustrating …
Sounds good thank you. Only problem is I don’t have access to calmag. If you're gonna buy coco, just use coco and perlite and a basic three-part, non-salt-based nutrient line. No sense trying to reinvent the wheel using multiple grow methods.
Using worm castings, soil, and coco is like trying to get oil and water to mix together.
Keep it stupid simple. Coco and perlite. Good nutrients. Rehydrate your coco with pH'd calmag water and you're off to the races.
Oh. Well, shit.Sounds good thank you. Only problem is I don’t have access to calmag.where I live . Thx
I live in South America outside Bogota in the country. Our soil is very dark and apparently very rich cause everything grows well here. I have per light I have cocoa and the worm casings if I were to go into the city, it is four hours away to Bogota There I could get soil for ceilings. It’s the rainy season here so some days it will rain for several hours and then the sun will come out and it will dry it up. My hope is to have 2 to 4 plants inside and 6 to 8 outside. I have a king LED 400 W lamp inside and we have a small greenhouse outsideOh. Well, shit.
I don't know their username, but I remember reading through some thread somewhere where someone who has been growing in coco for a long time doesn't use calmag or a pH pen and somehow manages without issue. Telling you how to find that person or that thread is a different story.
So, strictly soil then, eh?
That looks like really black, heavy soil. Thin it out a bunch with perlite. And water a lot less.
What are you currently using for nutrients?
Also, just out of curiousity, what's the consistency of your native soil? Like, if you go outside and dig a hole and pick a handful of it up, does it all stick together?

Nice views!
Your soil definitely needs more air and less water. So, add a bunch of perlite. I can't tell if you already have that or if you have to go into the city to get it but, either way, your soil needs it.
Also, when you're watering, only water until there's just barely a dribble coming out of the bottom of your pot. Then pick your pot up and pay attention to how heavy it feels. Lift it up and set it back down and lift it up again a few times. Get a good feel for what it feels like when it's saturated. Wait a few days. Go pick that same pot back up and see what it feels like. Don't water again until it feels a good amount lighter. Go from there. Eventually pot weight and visual cues will make watering a lot easieYes
