Nah I tossed it. You should essentially be able to split the cotyledons out if it's removed. In that there's now two leaves instead of one bulb type object. If it's split down the middle it should be fine. Otherwise there may still be remains stuck on there.

Yes, spit away, or use a drop of water on the seed husk. As is absorbs it'll be forced off by the cotyledons. Don't let it dry out till it's off, and dont try to snap it off.
