Hempy buckets vs coco hempy buckets.

Any advantages or disadvantages to either?

Would a mix of perlite/coco be better?

Whats your opinion on this?

yes a mix of perlite &coco would be better imo. i run coco in smartpots and hand feed every other day and my coco still holds water even in the smartpots. i would put perlite in the bottom of the container filled to just above the drain hole in the side.

Been a really long time since used the hempy's, so really couldn't say in a side-by-side...?

I've used coir cut w 30% chunky perlite w great success, esp if d2w, top-fed. Just easy as pie. Roots love it. Lots of drainage/air. Plenty of reserves depending on size of pots & plants.

If recirculating, bottom-flooding, the cut also helps w air spaces/drainage. It does build-up the ppm's this route, just a heads up.

Hope this helps a little. You should do a side-by-side & post the results! Peace.

No coir = no insects
Good arguements for both sides, coir means you can go longer without watering

true, i got a case of fungus gnats due to overwatering so i cut back my feeding to when the sides of my smartpots dried a little dryer.
