Where I live the limit is 8 plants total including clones, 4 plants flowering limit. I often hear about people saying they cut a clone, it spends two weeks in a dome, then an additional 4 weeks in veg for a total of 6 weeks, and then they put the plant into flowering. I can understand this if you only have one grow room and you start with new seeds each time. But if you are a person who has one room for veg and one for flowering and you continuously grow year after year without taking breaks it seems you would be forced to have your plants in the clone/veg phase for an equal amount of time as it takes to flower because there won't be space available in the flower room. Which is usually a minimum of 8 weeks flower time.

You've got the math right, and it means you aren't stuck with a short veg at all. Those 2 weeks dome plus 4 weeks veg numbers come from people who need the plant ready by a certain day, or who only have so much height. With a continuous 8 to 9 week flower, you have 8 to 9 weeks to bring the next batch along, so a longer veg just fits the schedule.

Work backwards from your chop date. Take cuts about 10 to 11 weeks before the flower room empties, let them root, then veg them to whatever size suits the tent. If they get ahead of schedule, hold them in a bigger pot under 18 hours of light, or top and train them to keep them manageable.

One catch with an 8 plant cap is that a mother counts toward it. If you keep one, you've only got 3 spots for clones. Plenty of people skip the mother and take cuts off a veg plant they're about to flip, or run a longer veg on fewer, bigger plants. There's some talk of filling a tent with longer veg in this thread.

Are you keeping a mother, or cutting from plants in the veg room?
