How long do you wait before saying a seed isn't germinating? Planted 3 kush 1/22 only one has sprouted (8 days) and nothing from the other 2. Last year planted the same thing and got them all sprouted after 5 days. I want to make the decision soon so I can get a refund and back in track and start over

Thanks

You can carefully, with a finger tip, scrape away the top layers of media to find the seed/stem and see what it is doing or not doing.

i once had a seed pop out after a month next to the replacement seed i planted.... but usually its 5 days unless it deep then max 10
lol

I found a seed growing in a flowering plant pot I never took the seed out I just replaced it not thinking it would grow
Found another growing in my compost bag that I had tossed thinking it wasn’t viable

you never know they can surprise you

I guess you planted these without use of soaking the seeds or using another method? Do you have a humidity dome over them and is the room there in at least 70f ? I would uncover the seeds myself and see what's happened.

i had this a lot then i discovered my soil was too cold, (and earlier too wet) my last grow i had 2 seeds which didnt pop so i threw them on the soil and planted 2 more. its winter where i am so i had to put a heater in there and warm damp soil was perfect and everything came up.

Ok so I dig some digging and found that one has done nothing and the other looks like it did pop but ever so slightly.

Can I retry this with some paper towels with the same seeds or is it too late

Can always try, if all fails try again

I see a tap root so should grow a bitty

After paper tower I go straight into root riot cubes as I’ve found they creat a solid root system ready to trasplant into any medium
(Hydro) my choice,

I place so clay pebbles under my starter cubes the the roots grow about 1in /2in out the bottom of the cube

I’ve had beans pop in 24hours using paper towel method

12hrs in a cup with tap water
12hours on paper towel in a zip lock
Tap root should be threw max 2 days
When you do 12 hours on a paper towel in a ziplock the paper towel is damp. Correct ?

Yeah il wet the paper towel with the same water from the gemanation cup

Just moisten the paper towel try not to let it dry out keep the bag sealed in a dark warm environment

Checking regularly for mold

Or signs of growth

I would direct plant that one with the tiny root just slightly below surface. Try again with the papertowel on the uncracked one put it in a warm dark area in a baggie.

that looking inside is not 100% i took so many heads off some where because the plant was dead and weak but you never know. you go slow your hand twitches exact same time you find the seed -.-

root of the opened one look a little transparent more than white that usually a sign it start to rot, also your soil look rather damp around the seedlings you may have watered a little too much

Your soil looks way too moist in your last photo, it basically looks like mud. As HerbalEdu mentioned above, this taproot already looks to be starting to rot before it's even fully out of its shell, you may be better off starting with a new seed at this point.

I use the moist paper towel in a ziplock bag in a warm dark place method - most of my seeds pop in 24-48 hours like this. If they don't pop after 7 days, I consider it a dud and move on.

  1. Moisten a paper towel with warm water, squeezing out any excess. You want the paper towel to be damp, but you don't want it to be so saturated that it's dripping.
  2. Place the seed inside the paper towel and fold the paper towel until you have a small square about the size of a golf ball.
  3. Place the folded paper towel inside a sandwich sized ziplock bag, leave a little air inside for padding, and zip the bag up
  4. From here, I'll wrap the ziplock in a hand towel to block out light and provide a little more insulation
  5. Place the towel in a warm and dark area. Check every 24 hours to see if you have a taproot forming. As previously mentioned, you should see one in about 24-48 hours, but it could take up to a week. Anything more than that and I'd say it's most likely a dud.
If the paper towel starts to dry out before the taproots form, remoisten the paper towel and repeat steps 2-5. Making sure the paper towel stays moist is key. If it starts to smell off, that might be the beginning of mold forming and you'll want to change out the paper towel/ziplock bag asap. This typically doesn't happen unless it takes longer than 48 hours to pop.
