i just scored a black, thick plastic, barrel style, reservoir @ 35 gallons.
this was used in a friends hydro set up ...& given to me.
since the previous owner of this fine, thick plastic, drum is what i'd call (for the lack of a better term) a total slob, what's a good way to prep the barrel for use as a fresh water containment set up without tons of water waste.
this was sitting outside for more than a hot minute.

...not mixed together of course ;-)
do you guys put air stones in your rez to keep the water oxygenated & fresh... or does that matter?
any advice will be much appreciated.
