So I got some seeds from a dude at work, and I thought 'fuck it...why not?!"

So here I am, a month later, and I've got myself a tent, a fan and filter, a light, some nutrients, some planting equipment, and the Internet for guidance.

These are what I've grown so far.

Two seem to be growing well, and two are growing very slowly.
I think I nute burned one as a seedling and I kicked the other one over when it was sprouting, exposing half the roots from the soft coco coir, and although that one is growing slowly it's growing a nice colour and is in proportion. I think I'll be patient with this one.

Anyway, I'm finding advice very difficult to filter, and any question I try to get answers from online usual end up with a confusing array of answers.

Which beings me here.
A dedicated weed growing community.

I hope i live up to your expectations.

For what's its worth, I'm a white mid 40s Englishman doing this in England where it is still very much illegal to grow, but they tend not to really bother small, personal growers. They'd still destroy them if they found them though...so I can't be too careful.

Anyway, that's me. I drive plant vehicles and large forklifts for a day job.

If I could beg a minute of your time, could you guys look at this and tell me if I'm set up right? And how can I tackle the top leaves canoeing?

My set up specs are:
-1 metre x 1 metre x 1.8 metre tent.
-100mm inline extractor with carbon filter.
-250W HPS light (about 600ppfd at canopy)
-growing in coco/river soil/perlite mix in 14 litre buckets
- currently on an 18/6 schedule

I’m having trouble seeing the pictures because there very yellow from the hps light.

Does it look set up right sure it looks fine.
I would change the bulb myself to a metal halide when in veg however It’s no biggie

some growers may try to persuade you to change it for a led however unless heat is a problem ( I would of thought it was the weather we’re having ) there’s nothing wrong with a hps/duel spectrum light

One well two things
There are holes in the bottom of the bucket if not make some & take your fertiliser bottles out of the tent they last longer when not exposed to heat

Maybe a third next time I wouldn’t use a bucket it’s gonna hold more soil than the plants need

Btw what are the stones for you don’t need them in soil ( hope you washed them )

The buckets do have holes dried in, yes. About six roun md the bottom and another 6 or so round the bend at the bottom of the bucket wall.

The stones are to try combat fungus gnats, which is something else I knew nothing about.

I'll probably pick up some sand to top the soil with, and I've got a couple of litres of hydrogen peroxide to wash the soil if it gets any worse.

I'm gonna go for an LED I think, just because the heat is pretty bad in the tent at times and I think it's affecting the plants.
I've seen a 200W LED floodlight kicking out 20000 lumens and 6500k, and two of them still cost less than a basic led grow light.
The lights baffle me, to be honest.
The range of them is huge, so I'm just going to grab the two pairs of flood light lamps and a blurple 100W LED just because.

Hopefully the gnats don't get any worse, but im sure LED lights would reduce the heat dramatically in there and maybe make the soil less attractive to the little buggers.

I used to be part of overgrow back in the 80s before it got busted I tried many a forum afterwards even trying overgrow back out but all the extremely knowledgeable folk didn’t come back this is the only other place I feel comfortable posting in

Smaller forums can get a bit “ you gotta be in with in crowd type thing” or have badges for everything making it feel like a Boy Scouts club esp when it’s the knollage that counts not the badges so basically I found this place by going through a load of other crappy forums first lol

Whenever I get gnats I use nematodes.

They much up the larva & put a end to them very quickly if accompanied with yellow sticky traps

Don’t buy these ones there not that good

Instead pick these there’s more surface area to catch any adults

The gnats lay there eggs in the soil which eat the roots so it can be very stressful for the plants.

If you buy soil stored outside like from a garden centre you will stand more chance of buying a bag full of gnats than you would do if you buy the soil from a good hydroponic store which stores the soil inside

Be careful with the lights! 6500 K is a narrow spectrum light! I’m no expert, but I think it would be great for vegging but not so great for flowering. I think the three and 4000 K are better for flowering! I think you would be better off with a full spectrum light if you are going to use the same light for the whole grow! So do your research! Just two cents! I use 5000 K narrow spectrum LED shop lights to veg my plants indoors up until the time I can put them outdoors under the full spectrum sun! And they work well for that! But I wouldn’t try and flower under them!

I’m not so sure if that’s a good idea to be honest

Yeah, I’m not sure about the hydrogen peroxide either! I’ve always heard that mosquito bits watered into the soil was the go to for Nat larva! That’s another thing I would want to research! Gotta find out how deep that water is before you dive headfirst into it! Right on, Gmix! Hope things are going well for you also!

Just a quick one...

Can anyone tell me if these are females?

This is the best shot I can get of my calyxes, and to me they look female but being the novice I am, I think it's wise to get good advice.

I’m not seeing anything female! But sometimes real early new growth can look like sex organs! I would want to see a few nodes lower down on the plant!

That makes a lot more sense now.

Every node is displaying the exact same "calyxes" which makes sense now because they're new growths, not sense organs.

That's the value of asking.
