Hey all,
Ive recently learned about root temperatures and its importance. So i want to get the temps right, but Im having a problem meeting the low end temp.

I live in Colorado (nearly always cool and dry)...
My plants are off the floor...
The temps inside my tent are constantly between 75-77°...
The water I use is in a 5 gal bucket, sitting on a heating pad, which is also off the floor. Temp of water is about 78°...
And yet, according to two long probed temperature dials that I have, my soil remains at 60° !!
It only rises in temperature after I water it, then after a few hrs its back down to 60°

Ive thought about putting an electric blanket underneath the tent, but I fear that all that weight on top of it might pinch a wire and start a fire.

Does anybody have any ideas as to how I can raise my soil temperature to help out my plants roots?

Thanx

I container grow outdoors in So Cal and have long lamented about tricks for keeping the roots warm on cold winter nights. Instead of an electric blanket, you can set your pots on seed mats which raise the temp by about 10 degrees over current surface temp, and that heat will dissipate upward into the pots. You can also wrap the pots in a weather resistant electric blanket. When nights are gonna dip down into the low 40's I move them into the shed and huddle the pots together to hold on to more of their heat longer.

There is an insulation board you can use. 1/2” thick put it under the tent and it should help. I forgot it under my 4x4 and kicking myself. You can also get a seedling mat, Vivosun has 4x2 put your containers on top of those.
