what happens without the heater? Here's the situation:
The room is 9x12 with a small closet.
It is kept at 79-80° with a space heater. The vent from the heat pump is sealed.
The door stays closed with a blanket on the outside.
My plants are in a 4x4 tent, but the front door is always open...24/7. I only have the tent up to hang the lights, and mess control.
There is a small fan that blows into the tent from the room to keep it breezy.
I have no exhaust set-up. The only air exchange is when I open the door to check the plants and stuff. About 3-4 times/day. (Im working on it).
I'm running a sf 1000 and a pb1000 on two plants in soil.
I have a humidifier inside the tent that runs 24/7.
I figured my temp/humidity reader was bad. I brought it into the living room and set it right next to the base unit part. They were both the same within about 30 minutes. I figure that means it's working. So
I can't - for the life of me - understand how my humidity can only be 30%.
On both replies (I don't know how to quote both in one lol)what happens without the heater?
is there a big swing in humidity % with lights on and off?
That's possible. It may not be. In my head tho, 1/2 gallon of water a day seems like it should do a 9x12?The humidifier isn’t up to the job. If it’s inside the tent you need to close the tent. It just isn’t got enough capacity to humidify the room and tent.
30% humidity is fairly common inside during the winter months in cold climates. It's because heating the house dries out the air. You would be better off with a large enough humidifier to bring up the humidity in the room that the tent is in. That way the air enters already conditioned. It's difficult to regulate inside the tent and too much moisture will condense on the inside walls potentially causing other issues. Here's the situation:

So my heater + the inadequate size of my humidifier is the culprit?30% humidity is fairly common inside during the winter months in cold climates. It's because heating the house dries out the air. oh you have LED’s yes 80 or so is good..On both replies (I don't know how to quote both in one lol)
Very little swing. I haven't turned the heater off. I've been under the impression that with led temps in low to mid 80s?
No sorrys lol. Everything helps. I just can't wrap my head around this.oh you have LED’s yes 80 or so is good..
sorry didn’t notice
Space heaters are expensive. What happens if you open the register vent and allow the heat pump to heat the room? Does your humidity rise or does it remain the same?No sorrys lol. Everything helps. I just can't wrap my head around this.
That's a good question. I haven't tried that. I keep my house thermostat set at 68. With the LEDs, I worry about the temperature being to low. I am willing to try it if the lower temperature won't hurt as much as the low humidity.Space heaters are expensive. If you get a bigger humidifier then humidify the room the tent is in. You should also consider adding a exhaust fan to the tent. It will pull air from the room into the tent through the lower vents. The ac infinity fans can be had with a temp/humidity controller that turns the fan on/off to maintain the set temp/humidity in the tent. You can also use a Inkbird to control tent environment. Humidity in winter can be a battle as you are finding out. I am currently running two cool mist humidifiers to keep my 4x8 grow room at 60%. The rest of the house is currently at 22% rh.So my heater + the inadequate size of my humidifier is the culprit?
This is what I get from y'all in the helpful replies. I cannot thank you enough for helping me to understand how this works.
Would I be better off - with what I have - to turn off the space heater and open the vent? Or turn it off and leave the vent closed?
I can't close the tent right now. It's a long explainatiin that will amount to alot of excuses lol.
We'll get back to the tent temperature in a bit ... Let's see if turning off the space heater raises the humidity first. That's a good question. I haven't tried that. Look for a vpd chart. It will help you target the humidity based on the temp. That's a good question. I haven't tried that. I keep my house thermostat set at 68. Two for a 4x8? Ok I get that now. My house sits around 25-30% in winter. If you get a bigger humidifier then humidify the room the tent is in. This one has been pretty helpful for meI will
