This is my first grow so I’m definitely inexperienced. I work 10 to 12 hour days Monday through Friday, so I really only have time to water during the week. I harvested and started the drying one weekend and I was planning on trimming and beginning the cure the next weekend. Unfortunately the plants weren’t ready until the following Tuesday. I trimmed what I could and the rest. I just cut down into smaller pieces and put them into a jar untrimmed. I’ve still been burping the drawer, but it is 100% full which I know is not proper but the Rh has been steady around 60. I’m concerned because they smell a little off but the jar that I was able to get fully trimmed down it smells great. I plan on getting a bigger drawer tonight taking it all out. Let it breathe place it in the bigger jar and trim in the morning. I’m just curious if I have already messed up this batch by starting the cure untrimmed.

What kind of weird smell? ammonia, musky, grass? And how untrimmed were the buds? Any pics?

As long as you're patient and have good control of the curing environment, you should be OK. There are some curing protocols that leave branches mostly untrimmed by design, e.g. Notsodog's "contractor tech."

It’s a very different smell I don’t really know how to explain it, but maybe a little bit sweet a little bit funky. I cut off all of the big branches, but left all the little stems and the leaves.

So it sounds as though you could benefit from a drip system based on the ability to only water on weekends. As far as trimming it wouldn’t hurt to trim what you have now and dry it on a ventilated area. I would let this go until the buds are dried out then cure and see what you have after that. Nothing ventured nothing gained. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Im sure it will taste like weed....maybe a little grassy, ensure you compare what you trimmed at first and what you let cure whole. Everything we do is a lesson...it will be tharmt was great I will do it again....or lesson learned....wont do that again...but you will still smoke it.😁.

I hardly trim at all anymore…I remove anything that’s not frosty and that’s about it…I don’t think it affects the taste or smell at all.

If its not ammonia smell you're probably good.

I got one jar trimmed up and clean, the other i went a bit quicker. Def notice the leaves in there. Nothing a well done flush couldnt fix
