I want to know how many plants can be grown with 1000w?

Depending on how that 1000w is delivered. 4 250s? One 1000w? You can make it work out many different ways. So this question can only get very vague answers and would require specific details of the grow space and your goals for others to properly recommend or suggest.

I’m pretty sure plant count is irrelevant it’s all down to your space say you have a 4x4 you can fit as many plants as your space fits, but remember they double of not triple in size come flower good number would be 4 plants per m2

Another thing is 1000w light could be pretty costly especially in veg figure out your size nd space I’d recommended 600w per 1.2 m2
1000w is rated up to 1.5x1.5 -2.5 x2.5m2

Light manufacturers are pretty good at sharing info on the optimum grow area the light is designed for. For most of the lights out there a "1000w rated" LED light should be okay for up to 4x5. Quotes are necessary because those lights actually only draw between 90-350 watts. Check your light manufacturer's web page. You should also find some good info there as to what distances from the light you will get the optimum levels of certain wavelengths of light so you know proper distance to keep it throughout the plant's growth cycle.

Edit: Yet again I managed to Rant without addressing the original question. Once you determine the amount of larea your light is designed to provide, it's a question of how you want to grow. You can grow one monster plant in there and let it take over all of the light space, or you can probably squeeze a shit load of one gallon grow bags in there, each with its own plant.
Are you looking for a volume of plants or a volume of harvested product when you are done?

You could do a sog, 100 plants in 2ltr pots, only give the plants a week in veg but your only pull 4 to 8g per plant or you could do a single plant( scog)
Takes 7 weeks in veg and pull 400 to 600g so in theory, a sog will pull a higher crop but it's a nightmare to set up and the cost of seeds etc

12 plants would be a good amount.

A 1kw hps with the right reflector on a light mover will cover the same canopy as a led, most of its down to your setup,

It's good fun learning to grow.

So, I am of two "scools" I have the 2022 MARS HYDRO TS 3000s'

I have tents with them where I grow my plants to a maximum height for the tent.
Then I move them to a grow-room where they are under HPSs' and COB LEDs

I'm more concerned with a quality medical supply then bulk. I waste energy.

I just thought to share.

One of the best days ever in my grow life was hauling the old stuff off and dumping it as the scrap yard. Fixtures, bulbs, parts, ventilation,,,,,, all of it gone. I had ridden the wave for years and it was time to hit the beach.
Oh yeah. All the trips to Home dE Pot and cobbling together the "Grow Room"
Such a romantic memory.
I still have my Compact Florescence light rack that I hand made. That was before LED was any good!

Thanks for the link, brings back good memories, when I first started to grow, it was all about Lumatek 600w digital dimmable Ballast(single end), first 3 weeks using mh and then swapping over to hps using a air cooled reflector, they really only cover 1m x 80cm, I could run 2 in a line 1.6m x 1m and the results where ok.
Temps where really hard to control( often the room hitting 35c)
Years later I used the adjust a wing reflector, they where really good.

All most brought a 750w adjust a wing hellion defender light system and put 2 on a light mover,
Even now I don't know if a good led would be better, it's got to be very close, tipping point for me was LEDs are a lot safer.

Well, I went ten years unable to grow and then I bought this place.
So I missed out on the LED evolution.
Here, I am learning how to use LED and this year I have have a sweet recipe for "Compost Tea" That seemed to be the juice! They were vibrant.
Measuring the distance of LED to canopy and adjusting the LED this time seems to have been the best I have ever done with those tents.
And I agree heat with 1k HPS is a serious thing. I happen to be warming my living room with my light's discharge right now however, I only run them in winter when the air is going to be cold.
Hey you know, we like what we like.

I will say this Hortilux Eye HPS is like the Sun on a Summer day when I fire up a new bulb. If the floor was beach sand I couldn't walk on it barefoot with a new bulb "burn in"
The value in them is that as they age they mellow into all the light I need.
So I'm old school and new school at the same time.
I have made seeds so letting those mothers grow natural and taller then a tent is important to me. I let them grow big and tall and enjoy their time alive and do what they do to make babies. Happy Mommas make better babies in my theory.

I am saying that LEDs are rather good lights if you ask me and I have flowered in my tents once and that was just fine.
I just have a choice of how I can grow my semi-legal and licensed five plants.

To be honest, I missed the LED lighting revolution. I mostly observed as others jumped on board. Over the years, I’ve often heard how amazing and worth the investment LEDs are, but more frequently, I’ve been told it’s just a waste of money.

I typically use basic plant fertilizer from my local DIY store, though Compost Tea does sound promising.

Around the time of the flu pandemic, MIGRO developed an LED grow light using six bulbs. I needed a veg cabinet, and it was an affordable setup. The results were surprisingly impressive.

I then built a flower light, which worked out great, so for the past five years, I’ve continued using them.

LED prices have really dropped over the years, and I still prefer using bulbs since they allow me to fine-tune my setup. I can design the grow light to fit the exact space I need, while most commercial grow lights are designed for standard areas like 4ft x 4ft or 2ft x 2ft. If your flower room is an unusual shape, those standard lights aren't as helpful, and you end up having to make do.

For fertilizer, I use basic dry fertilizers from my local DIY store. I grow in a shed year-round, where winter temperatures can drop to -2°C and summer temperatures can reach up to 35°C. To manage this, I designed the shed with an air circulation system: cool air is drawn in from under one side, and hot air exits from the other, powered by a fan with a speed controller. I also added a lot of rockwool insulation (6” thick) in the floor, ceiling, and walls, giving me full control over the temperature without needing air conditioning. In winter, I use a 500W heater set to 20°C just to take the chill off. The rockwool helps maintain temperature stability.

I used to love growing with HPS lights, but the lack of height in my flower room, combined with the excess heat and high electricity costs, made it impractical for me. I never got around to making seeds, which would have been fun.

Living in the UK, where growing is not legal, means that growing even five plants is a lengthy process. From seed to harvest, it can take 4 to 6 months to get more than 6oz per plant.

I grow perpetually, which isn’t ideal, but with careful planning, you can optimize your space. By creating multiple rooms for each stage of growth, you can double your harvests per year. Here's how I structure it:

  • Stage One: Clones/seedlings (first 2 weeks)
  • Stage Two: Transplant to 3-liter pots (3 weeks)
  • Stage Three: Move to 6.5-liter pots for 2 weeks, then to 20-liter pots (take clones)
  • Stage Four: Small flower room (first 4 weeks of flowering)
  • Stage Five: Large flower room (move plants, pull shoots down, and continue flowering for the next 4 weeks)

That’s how I felt switching nutrient lines.
