I've got a 20 gallon reservoir with a pump gravity fed through the bottom of it. For the past week I've been testing it with 5-10 gallons of water. Today for the first time I filled it up with 20 gallons.

After the first test feed, water wouldn't stop flowing out of my irrigation unless I put a kink in the line. It's seems the pressure from the ~20 gallons of water is pushing through the pump and out of my lines.

Is there some kind of in-line valve I can install to prevent this?

One way valve. I'm thinking your problem is the siphon effect. keep the pump and res below the output end of the hose. When the pump stops the siphon should break.

I think it might be more of a pressure problem from the weight of the water? Since the pump isn't submerged, it's connected to a sump outlet on the bottom of the reservoir.

I put the pump all the way on top of the reservoir and it's still forcing water out of the lines. I ordered a 1/2 check valve but not sure if this would help with a pressure related issue vs siphon.

yes it will they have a set pressure that the pump need to over come it will be more than enough to stop that i'm sure. Do you have a hose you can attach to it? If you do hold the hose about 2 feet above the res and the try it

Water pressure will raise the smaller side higher but I think if you get it over 2 feet above that will stop. maybe even less

those shark bite might be expensive but damn they can get you out of a jam,especially under a sink when you weight a ton hahaah,great design to,just put the toolin the end and they come right back out

Yeah the best part is they can go from copper to Pez and no need to solder

as you see mine dont even work hahahah,i got pvc ,copper and pex running threw this house when i replace it all going to pex,when my water well blew out had no choice to use pvc at the well the day before full of radition i had to crawl under that sink with my fat ass,cut the copper and put the shark bite in there ,was excellant for the tight spot no doubt,so last to winter ,ar 4 day frezze we just run the water,decided instead of filling septic system with water just put whole house shut off at well,did and blew out on me busting whole manifold,so 4 trips later to home depot i got er done,from that copper pipe under sink and shark pipe connect i went to pvc instead,no disrespect to plumber,but only difrence from a plumber and a diy'er is the plumber has all the shit to do job on the truck hahahh

Lol. Truth but that goes for all trades. The paper means nothing you just need the knowledge and tools. I'm a millwright by trade. No better after getting papers.

that aint no shit bro,20 years as a machinist here,didnt mean shit,robots have taken over the oil field,i shifted gears in 86 ,made threw 9 layoffs,they offered a nc operator ,wasnt into it,job shop work what i like ,start to shipping,mills lathes drill press ever damn bit of it,machines now chunk of iron is put on racks and robot do the rest other than ship it,all on same machine,crazy shit hahahha
 
Put your rez and pump on the floor below where you are feeding. A pump isn't a ball valve. When it isn't running water can flow right through it. You are doing the same thing as having a line going strait out of the rez onto the feed area atm. Pump has to be below the feed lines or you will siphon the whole rez out in one go.
