They have dual meters that have PH and electroconductivity (EC) or Total dissolved solids (TDS). Basically TDS and E/C are measuring the same thing, you just interpret the readings differently. They're available on Amazon, you don't need to spend a fortune, look at the ratings. The chemistry of spring water is entirely dependent on the rock/substrate that the water flows through. So you can get alkaline or acidic water, you can get high TDS (mineral water) or low TDS. I have an artesian spring across the street from me, it is alkaline and has about 1400 PPM of TDS, very high in Calcium, Sodium, Magnesium, Manganese, and Iron). With a TDS that high I cannot do coco or any hydro type grows. It's also where my drinking water comes from (a well in the same aquifer). Prior to that, the old well had a TDS in the 4000 range, every month you had to clean all the aerator screens and shower heads because they would clog up with Calcium deposits. Any TDS over 500 is considered high. What is best water thought all spring water was the same still learning my tap water is awful that's why don't use it what do you recommend get pH meter for water you no best one that's accurate thanks for helping going to have 400 watt light next week
No you don't need to use distilled water, you can if you want. Not all dissolved solids in water are bad. You just need to know what you're dealing with. If you use distilled water you just need to know that you could have issues with not enough Ca and/or Mg. You said your tap water is bad, you don't have any test equipment, how do you know that?Distilled water is what I'm supposed to use right
I use tap water which is around 77 ph, check ur tap water add nutes ph down or upDistilled water is what I'm supposed to use right
Chlorine dissipates quickly, bacteria recovers within 24 hours, so unless you’re running a full on organic grow it’s usually not an issue. Yes, you’ll want calmag with distilled water.Mine taste like chlorine getting test equipment next week so I can test what's best reading on everything I need to check distilled needs cal mag right
Theoretically distilled water is nuetral PH 7.0, in reality it's usually slightly acidic because of it's interaction with CO2 in the atmpsphere. That will work fine, but when you start adding nutes (if synthetic) you'll need to PH the nute solution. With an organic grow the PH is less important.Hate to bother you but do I need pH up and down using distilled water
