Hmmm this is odd and a tough one. Did you super crop that center one do some hard LST or something? Like you i've never " wicked" autos just photos. But this started at the beginning of flower it just looks like overwatered at the base of the roots. Was there any green slime under those pots?

No green slime or anything.
Bases would get cleaned every week or 2. All the root growth into the bases happened in a span of 2 weeks between cleanings.

I used LST clips on all 3 plants

I need to water now but idk if I should be adding any nutrients to the water right now.
This is what I have on hand

The FloraMicro I use has Zinc in it, I'll have to look to see if it's enough.

i see
if they felt overwatered i think problem is not overfert, neither water...
if the light was ok in veg and other plants, not issue..
so it makes me think that might be some deficiency..

I stopped by my local supply store and they had 2 ph style tests, 1 for soil and 1 for water, I bought both.

Soil samples were taken in several different spots.

I mixed up the soil one with distilled water and it looks like ph of around 7.

The water one is General Hydroponics.
I mixed soil to distilled water using 1:1 ratio.
Stirred every 5-10 minutes for 1.5 hours.
Strained through a coffee filter.
Test looks to be a ph of about 6.5

Each test was repeated with same results.

thats good that the nutrient mix is at 6.5 then newty. plants should be getting all the nutrients they need you can use the water ones to test ph of the soil to. just test the ph of the water then put that water through the pot and then test a little run off.

I didn't know how accurate the runoff test would be with the water ones, that's why I did the slurry test, filter, then test with them.
With how close it was to the actual soil check one (7.0 actual soil tester, 6.5 slurry test with water test drops), I felt confident in both types of tests.
I'll try the runoff test and see how close it is to the slurry test.
Now that I have those drops, I'm testing everything just for fun

I was surprised when I tested the nutrients solution and it said 6.5
I looked up the dosing for the ph down on General Hydroponics website and I found that the Flora Series nutrients, the nutes I use, are actually ph buffered.

With ph in range, the only thing I can think is root issues.
Unless it's related to zinc like another member described.
I did read that zinc issues are usually from ph issues or root issues so maybe both.

Well the middle plant leaves are now standing, days of being droopy and now it wants to try and live

Damn they look rough.
Part of me is thinking just start over but I really hate giving up.

The last Auto that had the same symptoms, I made it to harvest and the smoke is actually pretty good. Made some decent rosin also.

yeah man nice, at least you can get a good reading of the ph. if anything off adjust from there. the ph drop things last quite long to, i use a bottle a year of the ph test liquid so pretty long lasting. yeah certain nutrient will set the ph to like 6 and upwards. so no need for the ph down. but yeah makes sense on the zinc. think its one of the micronutrients the bottles have in low doses to.

ive seen way worse newty, id just pull them brown leafs save the good ones. the buds look good though so wouldnt quit on them man. probably will end up being a good smoke when you harvest.

Also added Pure Blend Tea and Liquid Karma, has a low NPK value but is supposed to promote microbial colonization in the soil.

I have quite a few Auto seeds, I'll keep making changes until I get it right.

yeah man. sounds like something id feed to newty. the nutrients your adding there are perfect. the plant could of just got rootbound there in flower.

I definitely take full responsibility , all I had to do was top water more and I think everything would have been fine.
Just not going to risk it next time, 5 gallon pots and hand watering. I'll use the bases as runoff trays, maybe once I'm more familiar with Autos, I'll try the bases again.

sounds good, the 5 gallons should be way better. think ive a few autos. ill probably get a few going sometime. never really tried them indoor. my friends has had some chunky buds with them though.

This definitely has to be part of the problem, those are the roots inside the self-watering bases. Which means the plant is getting water (not ph adjusted) directly from the bases instead of from the soil, along with the nutrients.
Plus how much can the wicks actually suck up water when they're covered in roots?

So I need to either treat it like hydro now and go get my air pump and put them into the bases.
What about just taking all the water out and filling the bottom with medium and hand watering from now on?

At this point your "organic" grow is now a deep water culture grow.. check the pH of the water there. Organic soil grows is best in them really large pots starting at 15gallon and up. That's where the soil buffering magic can do it's thing ..not in a small pot.. can't see that happening. And the soil as it breaks down, if your running peat moss based soil, will become acidic. You have to keep an eye on the soils pH throughout the grow.

Even so, I'm sure very large pots would go a long way but I don't have that kind of space lol

If your using synthetic bottled nutrients I highly doubt there's anything living in your soil. I'd just treat it as if it was coco coir and run the pH at the lower range where bottled nutrients prefer to be vs the living soil pH range. Just my 2 cents man, good luck. You'll figure it out.

I've actually researched, watched videos, and have read a few research/real test articles about soil life, microbes, and synthetic nutrients by Bruce Bugbee and other scientists in the field. What I've found does not go by the hobbyist/community belief that synthetics kill all the microbes in soil.

No they don't, but to believe your gonna have an abundant healthy soil biology in a small pot? Its possible, plasuable.. but realistically.. not gonna happen. Not easily anyways.

Makes sense but until someone shows me a real life test like the tests I've found, then I'll keep an open mind.
I'll keep feeding my synthetics and also adding my organic supplements for soil health and microbes colonization, makes me feel better anyways lol.

Hey I was the same, until I went the BAS way .. will never go back. So much easier. And it's mostly a frame of mind, I try to eat right and stay away from fast food. Not that it's wrong, just the way I think about it. If you ever want to go all in, try one pot, at least a 15 gallon, just use dry amendments and compost. It's a different way, not the wrong or right way, but a way. Good luck man.
