Thanks, I've never read that soil saturation description, nice.

I need to get a feel for my pots... Dry vs empty.

Not sure what you meant with the vent fan? Are u talking about the time when fan is running? If so, on my 20/4 schedule.. The fan would be off for a 3.5 hour period?

Now you know with your "stupidity quote" You've got me on my toes!

Yes Wahtoogee...

"Now you know with your "stupidity quote" You've got me on my toes!"...LOL, I feel you little brother ask away!

Indicabush,

My watering regimen is definitely a problem.. I don't have one. I'm currently just going with checking the pots, sticking a finger in an inch or so and then watering. They were over watered in that pic (for sure) after I had made up a batch of fertilizer and I was a bit overzealous.

Some questions? I'm using air pots (Ruth's Farms) and was wondering if I should fill till I see runoff? I did see a bit with that over watering you see in the pics.... ?!

2nd question? Looking at feed schedules, flushes are in the works.. Don't they ended up over watering your plants??????

Yes, I've been trying different things to get everything in balance, the vent fan has definitely thrown a kink in everything...

So do some people put their vent fan on a timer, say during lights out?

I'll try a shallow dish of water in front of my heater, the cold humidifier just "ain't" cutting it.

Thanks in advance.
I'm a little different from others, especially since I do most of my growing in large beds that cannot be picked up. I say learn to read your plants. Over or underwatered looks decidedly different to *my* eyes than VPD parameters being out of range for that particular plant. I also never flush, again because I'm growing directly in the earth, and I live in California and am on my own well and will be well and truly fucked if I use up all of our well water. Also, I use only organic soil food web methods, no flushing is needed for that in my opinion.

Do you have your vent fan on a temperature controller? That's what I have, it's a lifesaver. I used to have it on a timer, but that wasn't working well at all. I can't recall where we got it, but it's for greenhouses. If the temp is high enough, the fan will kick on regardless of photoperiod phase.

For raising RH that shallow dish just won't cut it. Remember that there are materials with good capillary action--think towels, or in my case I learned that Zorbees are awesome. If it's a tent or small room, a towel (or towels) suspended over a bucket or other container of water, set so that they are touching the surface, will draw that water up and create a HUGE surface area from which it can evaporate.

For those airpots, consider bottom-watering. Get a tray of some sort, gotsta hold water, no more than an inch or two high, then put the water in that instead of watering over the top. Again, this is capillary action in action. Works great for me, and no, I don't end up overwatering my plants. Personally I think it's a more conservative method. I don't do this a lot indoors because of the issues I have with a rather large, permanent population of fungus gnats, though. So, OD only, for those plants I'm growing out to plant in the beds.

Makee thee sensee?

Yes, makes a ton of sense... I was gonna ask you guys about bottom watering.. I'm going to give it a try. I had just recently read about that, his/her method was after 1/2 hour if any water left in the bottom tray to dump it. I have my pots in catch trays now, they're clear so hard to pickup in my pics.

The idea of towels/zorbees sounds intriguing.. I'm gonna get that set-up.

I literally just checked in my tent, its during lights out period and this is the first time with my vent filter/fan off with a timer... All of a sudden... Not surprisingly, temp is 74f and humadidity;) is 67 percent.

I'm gonna look for one of those fan temp controllers you mentioned...

I'm gonna get this!!!

THANKS
