I grow hydro so I cant throw down any Diamataceous Earth...

I've got sticky traps set, but they are eating the shit out of my roots..

when I lift the bucket, the roots are grey and there are hundreds of little tiny black dead gnats...

I was going to flush with hydrogen peroxide...anyone got any suggestions?

ah shit bro..i hate those, makes me feel like crawlies on me..lol..I wish ya the best..as ya know Im new toHydro..I aint seen any so far...ya think a lite iso/water misted would do any damage..IDK..just another way us soil farmers roll..take care and be safe

where are they laying they eggs? in the Hydroton? or in the root mass? can ya take pics so i can realy get the heebeegeebeezzs

If you're hydro, there's this stuff called GoGnats (I make a spray out of it as perimeter control). It says you can add it directly into the reservoir - the only complaint I've seen is that it occasionally clogs chiller lines, so turn off stuff that could potentially clog.

You can also get Mosquito Dunks from the hardware store (near the Off insect repellent most of the time). It uses a type of bacteria that specifically targets only certain species of insect, so it's pretty safe to use. Put the dunks in a pair of pantyhose to keep the solids from clogging stuff up too. They used to sell the same stuff under the name "Gnatrol", but I don't think they sell it anymore. I've had good luck with these crunching them up on top of my soil.

Good luck! Those little bitches are persistent and multiply really, really quickly...

@ things you need to do...

Like the poster above posted, Use GoGnats.. In the res for 2 days then change to clean. Then 4 days after that run Gognats again for 2 days, flush, nute and continue.

Tommorrow goto walmart, target, etc, and get a protuct caled "No Pest Strips" and hang them in our room to kill the flyers..

To add the reason for the 2 treatments is that...

the first treatment kills the larvae feeding on the roots.. The next batch kills the hatched eggs that were incubating during the pervious holocost.. after about a week any eggs that havent hatched are duds. Since you have 2-3 hotshots per 8x8 area, they flyers don't survive long..

like lost said, its a 2 part massacre...

1 for the flyers... you can use a bomb, an air purge, or the strips

2 for the larve... consecutive treatments of a pestecide(i prefer foliar over adding it to the rez; no right or wrong) and/or beneficial bacterica specific to gnat larve

I like the Mosquito dunks>>>> I just put a couple chunks in some pantyhose and let that shit dangle on in the reservoir:)

Mosquito Dunks or any thing else with BT is highly effective. The most concentrated product I've found is Microbe Lift BMC made by Ecological Laboratories.

GTD and I gave you the best option to use in your room so the thread has run its course. Closed!
