I need some opinions and hopefully some advice from someone who's been there before. I was mixing up a new batch of living soil for my 120 gallon 20 cubic feet) pot. I got to the point I needed to mix my amendments in, and went ahead and added:
1/2 cup per cuft kelp meal
1/2 cup per cuft neem seed meal
1/2 cup per cuft oyster shell flour
1/2 cup per cuft crustacean meal
4 cups per cuft of a mineral mix I made myself out of mainly granite dust.
The problem I ran into, is as I was mixing, my fiance tells me she had already added the 10 cups of kelp meal. I'm guessing I have double the amount of kelp meal that I intended to put into this mix. The question I have, is can I run this soil and it not be detrimental? I know my first cycle will likely have some issues, but I am mainly worried about accumulated salts since I will not be watering to runoff and kelp meal tends to have around 6% salt content. Anyone with any advice on a course of action? I'm hoping I can just run it, but I've never made a mix with double the quantity of any amendment. Any help is appreciated!

so are you saying 15 cups total?
ive always used the rule of thumb of 1 cup per cu ft of soil on all my amends,i got to ask why no lime or gypsum though, just curious.
also i see no minor elements for micro nutrients in there

I appreciate your response! its actually 20 cups total in 20 cubic feet of soil. I had budgeted for 1/2 cup per cubic foot, and didn't realize she had already added the 10 cups of kelp.

I do have Gypsum in my mineral mix that I apply 4 cups per cubic foot. It is one part gypsum, two parts granite dust, and one part oyster shell flour. I also added a little bit of Greensand in with the mix.

well i dont think it hurt,i do add 1 cup of every mineral i put in per cuft,i also prefer woodash over lime, gypsum a must for me ,gypsum and lime clash with each other that why i use ash.
but sounds like a plan mate give her a go and see, only way to find out, cook it for about 2 months and plant a dried bean in there if it grows you on your way, good luck.
by the way hate to be the one to tell you this, take back glad to tell you this, you just stepped over into a world were no soil will ever be best and you keep trying for the best product hahahah
