No. Cannabis has evolved to self reproduce when needed. Different plants have different stress levels needed.

Properly bred old school strains rarely herm without tons of stress if at all. So the trait can be stress tested out with breeding.

That said. Some strains herm at the end and produce little to no pollen. Like sour diesel and the Blue Lemon thai. And they are more sensitive to grow in general but worth it in my opinion.

I am pretty sure crappy breeding is the cause for so much more herms these days.

I at first thought it was my LST that stressed out my plants but was not sure of that then I read this

"it’s far more likely that you had a hermaphroditic plant inside your space. Tiny male flowers can emerge from “female” buds without being noticed and release small amounts of pollen in a localized area resulting in a small amount of seeds in your colas. "

And it made more sense
I did use 2 seeds from some smoke I brought so maybe they were hermed seeds and thus the male flowers that I did not notice

Nothing else I did should have cause all 4 plants to seed up (2 diff strains)
The 2 from suspect seeds had far less seeding than the HH Plant those seeded up badly

On the bright side (Thinking Positive)

Although I have to go back to my 70's time of separating the seeds from the smoke
via tilting my glass tray so the seeds roll down lol
The smoke is excellent I would say an 8 on my scale
Not quite couch lock but a pleasant mellow that I can still do things lol
I am high as hell right now!
I have not tried the HH yet but the unknown is very good

The evidence will come in about 4-6 wks when I see what the 6 plants in the
tent do because they were in the tent for bout 2 wks with the hermed plants
so if they herm then it was deff pollen related as these are plants I got from a
friend as clones 8 wks old and no LST going into them as they are short enough
just bending a little to even out the canopy so no stress at all involved so I wait
all the stress is on me lol but they look good and are doing great so far
Maybe I get lucky for once

Another reason is one of the HH I split the stalk from
LST and that one hermed first as far as I know for sure
but in the pics I see the seed pods when looking at the split
stalk pics I wonder if that one is the culprit I wanted to pull
that one but could't bring myself to do it.

I was going to save the seeds but found out they no good to use

Dam still high off 2 or 3 puffs! Good Times!

Curing popping the tops 3 times a day
I think it cures for 2-4 weeks in cool dark place
then they go in the freezerino

Beautiful out today so I cut the grass.

Oh so boring Monday

These little fellas are about 6 weeks into flower stage
At 6, 10, 12 & 14 inches tall they were scheduled to die 2 weeks ago
at the last minute I changed my mind and put them in the
downstairs bathroom window lol just natural sunlight &
natural day an night so very low maintenance,
just a small 6" fan and crack the window open for awhile in the daytime,
ya it is facing the street but can't see em cause of glare.

Boy, I wish I could grow outside this year
It's the best way for sure maybe one day New York will become legal.
My 1st grow was and they got to 6 feet high and harvested 9.5 oz's from 3 plants.

Best laid plans
Dam you corona

Had to use dirt laying around from who knows where
when these hydroponic clones were dropped off
Everything was shutting down
They are 9 weeks into flower today

They were 8 weeks into veg when I got them
I put them in veg tent for 2 wks to recover from transplant

I think they will be ready next week so 10 wks into flower
Is what it is

Had to put them outside
the tent was getting to hot and humid
and could not control the envirment in the tent
This late into the grow I was not expecting the new ones and
the heat this early in May into the 80's here
The upstairs room gets super hot in this weather
I need to get 2 more 6 inch exhaust fans if I ever go this late again

I think it is Nitrogen toxicity
Flush then out good and gave em a low dose of Karma
I could repot them with organic soil I just got but with a week left
before harvest I don't think it would help?

from the NT I heard it make the stems weak

Looks like this week sometime they will be ready to harvest

Harvesting Sunday or maybe Monday it is raining here today and tomorrow
Monday will be sunny all day Not sure if they are ready
but ready or not they will be harvested

They will be 10 weeks into flower on Sunday

🐿Squirrels not messing with them so far lol

Now at the end of my 5th grow I agree with your deduction 100%

Here is my observation of my failures (in a nutshell)

1st grow
I had seeds from smoke I brought and planted them on a whim
outside in my garden just let them do their thing no nuites but prob over watered
Kept looking for amber tri's @70%
Had to harvest bout 2 weeks early as the biggest one (6') got stole
Weed was OK but lil bit weak

2nd grow
Brought seeds online
Autoflower Sour Diesel inside with burple 900w light
FF nuites an soil
Kept looking for the elusive amber tri's
They hermed never seen the amber tri's
Done

3rd grow
Outside again
2 plants in 5 gal cloth pots (1 from online seed, 1 from found seed)
FF nuites
Took them inside 2 weeks or month before done
Burple light with makeshift tent
Looking for the golden tri's
Got some seeds, started to herm
Done

4th grow (inside)
Seeds purchased online
This time more meticulous with nuites
Mother Earth soil, Botanical Pro Grow nuites, 5 gal. cloth pots
2 TS 1000 MarsHydro lights, 5 x 5 x 6.5 Tent etc.
Looking for that gold in the tri's again!
After 11 weeks into flower I seen seeds forming
Done

5th grow
Clones from 40yr grower
I got them 8 weeks into veg
Put them in 3 gal pots with unknown soil (but my guess is it has auto release N)
in small tent w/burple light for 2 weeks to recover
Could not get good soil cause of the corona shit shut everything down.
Got to hot and humid in tent weather broke into summer to soon (9 wks into flower)
They outside now and 10 weeks into flower
So fk the amber tri's I am harvesting lol

I think I waited to long to harvest on previous grows although
in a perfect grow I should see amber but these strains are
temperamental and have a 8-10 wk into flower shelf life I think
and I cannot purchase seeds from another country
credit cards won't and my bank won't, even if I call them.

I dunno but will have to wait till summer is over to start my next inside grow
I would love to grow outside but wifey nixed it lol and there is that law
2 yrs in the pokey and 10 grand fine I believe here in the shitty state of NY

Well I will go over my notes and keep reading the threads (lurking lol) to improve my skill

Trimming now, might be the best crop yet, forgot to post last pics before harvest
Buds are tight and right now if smoke is good I will be happy happy happy!

I got some Head River Organics potting soil for next grow maybe but don't know much about it
There were no reviews at Home Depote were I got it from
Came to late so didn't use it

Dam I am finding it hard and expensive to get soil
$45 - $65 for 2 cu ft but free delivery lmao

Going to make a pound of cannabutter with some of the weed I got
from the last batch using slow cooker method.

Cannabutter

Ingredients:
1 oz. of marijuana bud
1 lb. of butter, unsalted
2 drops of vanilla extract
Equipment:
Crockpot
Knife
Cheesecloth
Heat-safe container
Spoon

This recipe also begins with the decarboxylation process. This process is critical to activate the THC compounds.
Heat oven to 225° place broken up nugs on pan with parchment or tin foil on it Bake for 30 min

The first step is to warm up your crockpot on high and put 2 cups of water in the pot. While that heats you can finely grind one ounce of quality cannabis bud. Cut a piece of cheesecloth about one-foot x one-foot. Place all of the ground cannabis material into a pile at the center of the cloth. Now carefully close up the cheesecloth around the cannabis material until you form sort of a tea bag shape with the cannabis material in the center. You want to tie it up tight in such a way that none of the contents can spill out.

Now the water in your crockpot should be warming up, place all of the butter into the crockpot and place the lid on. Let the crockpot heat up to its maximum temperature, once the water/butter mixture is hot you can add the cannabis bag you created, just drop it into the crockpot and close the lid.

Simmer your mixture with the cannabis bag for eight hours. Remove the cannabis bag and squeeze out any butter it contains. I like to strain the mixture through cheesecloth one more time as I pour the mixture into a food-safe container such as a mason jar. Place the container in your refrigerator once the mixture has cooled down.

The butter will set above the remaining water in the container. Just puncture a hole in the butter right through to the water at the bottom of the container. Just drain the remaining water and your butter is done.

From clones that come from a 40 yr grower and seller

2 TS 1000 lights (12 in from tops)
3 fans in a 5x5x6.5 tent ("can I tell you how much I hate tents")
6 in exhaust 4 in intake
up to 800 ppm max, Botanicare Pure Blend Pro Grow and just Liquid Karma (last 4 wks)
Soil was sketchy, had auto feed, I think, too much N
but no burn, no other prob but dark leaves lil droopy.

4 diff grows all the same results, text book
The only grow that yielded a dif result was the 1st one
Outside from crappy herm seeds with no nuits and over watered!
Which I got 9.5 oz of good weed, no seeds.

Hey guys, been awhile
After curing I ended up with 4 oz of pretty good smoke
Ya there are those dam seeds, bout 8 seeds per 2 grams
So I got this colander with just the right size holes, it does the job
easy peasy lemon squeezy

The bottom line imo is the tent got pollinated somehow
No other reason for every plant getting seeds even the little clones I had in there briefly
Now I have to disinfect everything, poles, fans, ducts, tools every dam thing !

I got my regular garden in but something popped up
Musta been a rogue seed from the last grow I had outside
because it got way to warm in the grow tent.
I showed wifey and left it to her to kill or not so far so good
and there is the chance it will be male lol

The small tomato plants are from seed
I got a late start I was experimenting
It's the first time I tried this with tomatoes
Wifey got nervous an brought a few tomato and pepper plants lol
So I got radish. Banana and habanero Peppers, cucumber, cantaloupe, squash and tomatoes
The onions didn't make it

Oh and the chicken wire there is cause my wife likes to feed the squirrels lol
They are very entertaining to watch, sorta like Circus Olay lol

but they also dig up my plants and flowers looking for something

This is their routine
They go down the tree across the fence leap to the shed roof onto the
charcoal grill then hop over the the propane grill up the pole
then down to the hanging basket were they find shelled peanuts
Grabs one then skedaddles outta there for the next customer
usually bout 4 to 6 of em and one black one we call Toast lol
