I've never used training clips myself but you could try putting a couple adjustables on the stem around the middle and put a 90 degree bend on the stem. Then you're not cutting anything you could harvest. I usually just bend branches like a coat hanger to put them where I want by pinching and bending very slowly. It's easier to manage when you're making your corrections in anticipation of where it's going and where you want it to go rather than trying to fix it once it's already there, so maybe consider that on your next run.
