Hey 619ster, thanks for letting us see your awesome LED grow.
Can you tell me how many diodes are in the fixture and what wattage they are?
Thanks!

Hey thanks for checking it out! I can't exactly say how many diodes, as I've never counted. And it's pretty uneven in there with the wattage, but the girls don't seem to notice. I have one panel that is a 2010 Spectra 180 (240w actual draw), and a 2010 Spectra 300 (360w actual draw). So it's 600w total in there. With them being 3w diodes, driven at (assumption) 700ma, would lead me to believe there is 100 or so diodes in the 180, and 140 or so diodes in the 300. Just a guess and estimation though. I doubt these models are available anymore as growledhydro owner Mike has put out newer panels with different design and diodes. I hear he is using more white diodes and a combo of lense viewing angles now. I have yet to find any other LEDs I would invest other than these so far, even from growledhydro. I just don't see the results coming out as good as his first 2010 models. So I've since gotten into DIY LED builds and learning what a quality LED panel consists of. Truth is, 80%-90% of LEDs out there are chinese crap (including mines, works yes, but there is better, and building your own is absolute best). If nothing of quality design and parts comes out very soon, my next step is to build a kick ass LED panel with nothing but Osram and Cree diodes. Only colors I will use are Red, White, and Blue (America!! YAY! lol). I think manufacturers are going overboard with all this color mixing. White LEDs at 5600K covers plenty spectrum that the Red (Osram Flower Dragon) and Blue (Cree Royal Blue) don't cover. So only 3 differnt diodes are needed. These guys are putting up to 11-12 different spectrums on these things and losing focus from what the plants actually "NEED". Sorry for the rant, but I see LEDs as a good way for marketers (like AN for example) to overhype their product and get over on buyers for hundreds of dollars, while you can build a better panel, with better parts, and longer life span, for the same price as chinese crap, if not cheaper. Peace!

Thanks so much for the info, definitely rant worthy :)

I posted in another section asking if anyone had heard of Haight Solid State LED panels. My local hydro store has them on display and they seem very interesting....Apparently the engineer behind them uses 6w diodes that are suppose to be way brighter than CREE and she also uses an OSRAM for her white ones (it only has blue, red and white so full spectrum), which are also phosphor coated for apparently a more rounded spectrum. Also the LED's are wide beam at a 140 degree viewing angle, I guess most LED's on the market are narrow beam.

How does all this sound? I really am thinking strongly about getting one, they seem really great.

Here's a link to my local store's page for the LED. Check it out and please let me know your ideas.

To be honest, I see alot wrong with their advertisement page. Off top I see a hyped up, overpriced product. But let's pretend their LEDs are actually as good as they say. Ok, passive cooling on LEDs being run at 1000ma, not good. Not only are you highly reducing the life and efficiency of your LEDs, but the heat caused by running a diode at full blast (1000ma) without proper cooling (via heatsink) will give spectral fluctuations. So frequency being emitted will not be what's intended in most cases. Now if they aren't running diodes at full blast (most likely the case), then the actual output and power draw of that panel is actually not 180w at all! Thus making the price of the panel no longer worth it in either scenario. Then a 1 year warranty? Kinda short for a product that is supposed to work for at least 5, and only has one function.

Besides all that the last Haight grow I seen was about 2 years ago and I was far from impressed. But who knows, maybe they stepped their tech up? I still don't see their panels being worth it IMO. I'd rather DIY.

Sorry its taken so long for me to reply - kinda been in a turkey coma....
Thanks so much for your take on them, I have the email of the woman who created them and I think I'm gonna ask her a few questions based on your thoughts.
Thanks again!

Thanks alot bro! Welcome, and thanks for taking a peak. I'll try and keep this thing updated and interesting.

Update:

So alot to catch you guys up on. As I stated, I grow in a perpetual setup, so things keep on moving, always lol. So on to what's going on now, or at least what I have pictures of.

First we have a couple small Royal Pure Kushes I stuck in there, they are clones bloomed out shortly after rooting. Just to fill in a hole in the tent. About 5 1/2 weeks in out of 8:

Just for kicks, I got a couple pics of some Pineapple Express from my other grow space which is lit by a 400w vert hps:

Here's results from the Lemon Diesel in a cup that I chopped. I expected 7 grams and got 9, YAY!!!:

Here's another Lemon Diesel. This one I grew out a bit bigger, and not in a cup lol. She is 4 weeks in out of 9 on these pics:

Here is my Pineapple Express I harvested. I hang dry with trim on for a few days, then give a trim before I stick into paper bags for the final dry before I jar. Just how I do it. I got 40 grams out of the Pineapple. Not bad for a gal. pot of soil. By the way it's my first soil grow. I learned to grow in hydro, then moved on to coco, and just started tinkering with soil. Backwards, I know lol. Just never grew nothing in my life, and dove right into hydro first. Anywho, here's the dried PE, mostly just top cola shots:

Hope y'all enjoyed the update. More to come soon. But for now, time to go puff on some of this Blue Mystic I have here from my other tent. Goes great in a swisher sweet!:

Haha no Turoring here, and thanks for the visit. I just feel I've gained and been given some IMO pretty valuable information on LEDs, so I'm putting it out there and paying it forward. Now I know about 80% of people who read this have no intentions to ever build their own LEDs. But for those actually interested in how to separate quality lights from cheap lights, I'm giving my opinions on what one should look for. LEDs have a bad rep for not being able to compete with other light technologies. Fact of the matter is, they can surpass most. Problem is there are no "HIGH QUALITY" and "SPECIFICALLY TUNED" panels out there on the market just yet. Plus we're still unclear to what blend and ratio of spectrums will work for cannabis best. I personally know a grower with a 120w custom built LED unit that performs like a 250w HPS. He's got his tech shit DOWN! But all this technical talk is simply for discussion sake on "my" thread because I feel this forum lacks LED info and supporters. But I'm no LED fanboy, I grow with all lights. Anywho, update to come when I get to a computer. Peace!

Thanks for paying it forward. I'll be sure to do the same with my grow experiences. Be warned tho, if I get anywhere near the results you did, I may end up an LED fanboi.

very nice pineapple express you have there is this the G13 labs PE? I have a few going in veg right now. I had some PE that was grown by a friend and It was mostly purple Did you have any other phenotypes or were you growing from clone?

Thanks :) Yup it's G-13 Labs PE, and was a free seed I got a year ago. Grew it out and been running her since. Never had any other pheno myself, but have seen it from others and looks similar usually. Never seen a purple one, but I know of some Hawaiian sativas (pineapple taste) that do turn purple. I still have one more, but I doubt it can get much better. I'm satisfied with my cut.

rite on man you really know how to keep things rollin and keep it interesting! I feel like we have alot in common when i t comes to growing. different strains, perpetual, leds, and started with hydro. alot of work but always enjoyable and always learning something new because of the way we choose to do it. well im watching and

.... hope I can learn from your journals
Sorry for late reply. I'm known to neglect my journal at times lol. But yea man, I noticed your grow style is very similar to mines indeed. And I agree, it takes lots of work to get a good perpetual cycle started. But it well worth down the road. Was slightly overwhelming at first, but once you get things dialed in and find how to KISS, it's like clockwork. I probably spend 1 hour at most in my garden on a normal basis, and that's for maintenance on 3 mothers, 5-10 vegging plants (depends on size), and 8-14 flowering plants. When I started it was more like 2-3 hours a day. Now it's just like clockwork. And funny thing is, most of that hour is spent staring and smelling lol!!
I cann't believe ,so short time ??/
Such short time for what? If you're referring to my harvests, I started this thread as my perpetual grow was already established and in motion. I haven't even shared my veg space or my other flowering tent with HPS in there. I harvest at least one plant every two weeks or less. That's probably why it seems to move so fast.that is if that's what you were referring to. Thanks for peeking!

would you agree.. LED big bang within the next 5 or so years.. everyone will have some kind of LED in their grows

it will take the right unit at the right price

ii mean look at those domes drippin.. i've only seen pictures of LEDs that look like that .. usually that is

I can definitely say that once LEDs are dialed in, and more affordable, more people will have them in there gardens. They are highly advantageous IMO. I've seen ridiculous FIRE buds from all kinds of lighting. I grew a very nice Bubba Kush plant under 280w of cfl's and the buds were dense, very decent size, mass resin, and decent weight. Easily comparable to buds from a major setup! I've also seen buds grown in a dialed in environment, under HPS and tested for thc content. Then same strain, nutes, and specs ran with everything the same, only with LEDs added to the mix (hps not replaced), and finished product tested as well. The product grown with LEDs added were higher in all %'s of cannabanoids tested. And as a personal observation (with "my" LEDs), I've noticed an overall healthier look in my plants grown in my LED tent, as well as a higher calyx to leaf ratio on the LED grown flowers compared to HPS grown flowers. I've been running the same strains now for a while so I know their tendencies and notice the differences.

Thanks for dropping in and for the good vibes. Peace!
