Light Hanging Height 400watt

Could someone help me out with how high my light should be to avoid streching but not to low to burn my plants? Im running a 400watt MH/HPS in a 3x3x5 grow tent. I just want the light as close as possible without burning & I dont want to test on the seeds i have now. Any help will be appreiciated!

you answered your own question.....as close to the plants as they can be without burning them. The heat will burn them not ur light so if it was aircooled it could be right up on them.

i leave mine a foot above the top of the plants.

place your hand under the light... the amount of heat ur hands feel is the same amount the plant will feel.

good advice from 2 new guys that seem to know their game. My veg tent has a 400, not air cooled and it's 12 inches from plant tops, just measured it for this post. Top of your hand is the best trick, if you don't like it the plants will not either.
