I've had some plants outside for a while now (early November). I did this as a last resort as they were dying inside (see last photo) due to numerous rookie mistakes. As you can see from the first three pictures, they made a miraculous recovery!
However, I've been informed by numerous sources that if I leave them outside given the time of year and location (January, 2023, coastal southern california), they will turn into huge trees and not produce bud until October or so. Can I bring them inside, use lights, and then get them into the flowering period asap? My questions are:
1) If I bring them inside, how long should I do the 18/6 light period before switching to 12/12? Keep in mind that currently they are outside and getting about 10 hours of sunlight. I believe they are currently in the veg phase but I included pictures and close up so you can make your own decision.
2) I need to transplant them badly. Someone recommended 5 gallon fabric pots. That sound okay or given their large size (Over 2 feet) do I need 7 gallon or more? The fabric pots are much cheaper than I thought, so I can definitely get some (and should have before!).
3) Perhaps this is too ambitious given my failures :), but is now the time to clone? If so (or if it's coming up), can you point me to an idiot-proof introduction?

You can read my previous posts, but basically I started these guys inside. I made a series of mistakes (overwatering, light too far and then too close to plants). At some point someone said "it's toe-tag time for those guys". My wife suggested I just throw them in the garden since I was about to toss them anyhow. You can see they made a miraculous recovery, but I'm told they will turn into trees and they a newbie isn't qualified to handle trees.
Thanks!

If your not going to get frost or freeze I would put them in the ground. You can bend them over to keep a low profile.

fabric pots would have been a great option yes will assist in keeping the trees smaller if you need keep outside
you can clone healthy mom plants but given you want to run your lights 12/12 this wouldn't work out well unless you grow outdoor and clone indoor

Thanks for the response @GreenGalaxyFarm . I did bring one inside (a controlled experiment!) for 12/12 and left other outside. Both in 5 gallon fabric pots now. If you want to see the updates/advice (some of which you gave?) see: https://www.thcfarmer.com/threads/p...st-resort-now-what.144962/page-2#post-2899370. I was about to post a new article about their progress and questions...
1) Both have dark green leaves, as well as light leaves. They look healthy. I'm just wondering why?
2) Should I be trimming any leaves or doing anything else? (Fox Farm trio is on order from Amazon)
3) Seems like bud growth on both is painfully slow (or I'm impatient). How big should buds get and ...
4) Maybe my light is not good enough for flowering (My light is BLOOM PLUS LED Grow Light BP 1000W (which I'm told is really 90W??!!)? How close should light be and/or would folks recommend a different light (which one?).

at 90 watts its probably so cool to the touch that your plants can grow right into the light

Does the light manufacturer have the recommended distance in the manual? If not, here's what my light manufacturer recommends for their 150 watt light. It provides the general idea for distance and intensity of the lights.

I have been using Viparspectra lights and so far I like them. There are many other good lights, though.
