Lighting questions, swapping out 600's for 1k's.

currently have 8 600's with adjust-a-wings for flower and 2 600's for veg. I have a 24k mini split for cooling. All my lighting was using adjust-a-wings. I just swapped out my 2 veg 600 wings with vented hoods. I dropped 5 degrees in my veg room. My veg room is currently running at 77 degrees and my flower room is running at 79 degrees.

I am considering going from the 8 600's with wings to 6 1k with vented hoods (possibly 8 1k's). I am curious how much light you lose going with hoods through glass over using adjust-a-wings? Will it be a decent gain going to the 1k's in vented hoods? I am looking for tighter buds and more crystal and deeper penetration. I don't think I will be able to pull off 6 1k's with just my single 24k mini split unless I go vented.

Also, how many 1k's can I vent per run? What is the max number of hoods I can run together for each exhaust fan?

thanks all for any input.

Well first of all, what are the dimensions of your room? And your split unit is 24k btu? Is your room wide enough to run two rows of lights? If so youre golden.

Most design flaws are sucking really hot air down a chain of hoods not cooling so much as removing, better to figue out multiple intakes for each hood so you aren't getting light one's overheated air instead of cool air. I have done this with movers so it can be done but adjusting slack as lights move up is challenging.

Was not sure if I could do 3 hoods in a row per cfm fan or if 2 is the max I should do, really would like to know how much light you lose going through the glass of a vented hood over using just adjust a wings

Keep them clean and youll lose very minimal lumens. When it comes to fans, 5 lights is usually where I draw the line. I have two rows of 5 Raptor hoods being pulled buy a serious 12" and everything works fine. 1ks will give you what your looking for and be a big step up if you want to run 8 of them. What kind of hoods are you looking at? I recommend Raptors or the xxxl hoods. They produce a huge print and use less lights with the same result. Check out my diary below, that room is 26x11 with 10 Raptors. You may be only able to fit 6 lights but its like having 8.

I was looking at the raptors myself, I will probably end up going with them. You think 6 1k's in raptor hoods will work heat wise with a 24k mini split in that room? I am running the 8 600's wings and no problems with heat, max of 81, usually 79 range.

I think 24k will do it if the lights are also aircooled properly.A good way to figure it linky is 4k per light for aircooled bulbs and 6k per light for open/bare bulb.

in a week or two we are getting 6 raptors, 6 1k lumateck digital ballasts and hortilux bulbs, was quoted 3200 from local grow store, seems like a decent deal, we are considering hanging some of the 600's we have vertically too, not sure we will be able to manage heat wise, could add a big window ac to help supplement the mini split if need be.

From what I have read you lose about 25-30% of your lumens going through glass.

24btu ac will do 8 vented lights, But your room will probally get over 80 when its hot, Most the year it works just fine.

I think you lose about 15% but gain more by the fact that now you can have the lights MUCH closer to the plants, can't have a sealed room without or use controllers, just to much heat otherwise, so vent and cool your lights,,Peace
