hi everyone! I hope everyone has had a great week! This is my first time here and I just have one quick question for all the farmers from Colorado: I am considering whether to start off as a farmer or go with edible production first and then set my own cultivation facility. I read somewhere that farmers were having a hard time with competition and as a result, were being hassled by costumers to lower their prices. So in the end a farmer would end up giving away more product just to keep a sale. However, i also read that the avarage salary ranged around 115,000 yearly, which sounds good but i wouldn't know. Can I please get some feedback as to the current situation and your opinion on the outlook of the situation so I can better decide what path to take? Thank you all so much for your time and have a greath weekend!!

California hasn't been too great in this biz due to its weather- too much product bur not enough demand. So farmers are basically giving it away... According to an article I read.
They are giving gold away in california!? Where?

What articles/publications are you reading? They are pretty inaccurate, wildly so. Average salary is minimum wage for the most part and that will not cover cost of living, I am rather doubtful even a head grower would pull over 100, I have heard around 50k. To meet the demand in denver, you would need to be able to drop enough cash to set up a warehouse grow. Thats a rather cash intensive process as most warehouses are not equiped for the AC and electric needs of a grow. Licensing looked to run about 35k, plus your legal fees...so theres another 100k. ETC ETC ETC. If it was a simple business like they have in CA, maybe you could make it, but the time to come to CO for weed was already gone by the time they legalized.

There is room in the various smaller towns and such, but denver is not at all a market to try and enter unless you are coming in with lots of cash (millions) and resources, teams of growers, etc. Currently pricing out some options for a friend, and honestly think I am going to tell them to stay away. You may want to look into WA, OR, or MI for a friendlier competitive landscape.

edit: have been looking at actual farming as a life choice. Eastern plains...your land is cheap and denver loves organic farm to table stuff....maybe someday.

Yup, not much demand for cannabis in California. We are a pretty straight laced crowd, even though the weather is not good for growing weed, there is not much demand. Where the heck are you getting your information?
As for Colorado, farmers have been there forever and now they have investment dollars getting into the market. Unless someone has experience, money and talent to produce clean top shelf bud they shouldn't move to Colorado with expectations of starting a profitable grow venture, imo.
The time to make money growing cannabis was while it was a felony. Shhhhh.

If you are like me you think of it as a spiritual experience and a gift from God. I will not sell it, whatever I have extra is given to veterans or native americans with ptsd.

Dont let those rado boys scare you away theres riches under those fourteeners, lol.

I am thinking of moving to grand junction, that fishing looks amazing.

I have a license for a grow and a store if your interested in a consultant. BTW, how much cash do you have?
Thank you for the offer! Right now I'm still saving up, I am in grad school for the time being and so the questions are more for direction purposes. Well, if by consultation there would be a fee then Ill keep it in mind for later on, because I still need to further research the topic. But if you ment you are willing to share your experience then by all means!
