Police are expected to release further details about a large-scale drug investigation centred on Regina that involved upwards of 100 officers.
The operation culminated in several searches in the city on Thursday as part of an eight-month investigation into groups suspected of trafficking in cocaine and cannabis
marijuana. As a joint forces operation (JFO), the investigation involved members of the RCMP's Integrated Organized Crime Unit in the south, the Saskatchewan Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, and the Regina city police. Investigators were also assisted in the searches by police officers from Regina, the Moose Jaw organized crime unit, the Regina Police Service SWAT unit, and the province's Safer Communities
and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) organization.
JFO spokesman RCMP Insp. Dave Haye said about 100 officers were involved. Several people were taken into custody Thursday and charges were pending. Haye said evidence and suspects were still being processed, but further information is expected to be released soon.
"At this time, the investigation is still active and there is no risk to public safety," states a news release.
