Major Pot Bust Lands Two Local Teens In Jail
Authorities in Soddy-Daisy say they have made a major marijuana bust.

Early Saturday morning along Highway 27, officer Martin penny and his K-9 pulled over a ford fusion for a broken headlight. Inside the car, police say they found an 18-year-old driver and passenger- along with an odor of marijuana.

Police say they asked Dakota Frase and Dustin Steele to search the car, but the boys didn't give consent. "They would not talk to the officers. Once being advised of their Miranda rights, they chose not to speak with officers without an attorney," says Detective Dennis Waters.

While the tight-lipped teens didn't give officers any information on where they were coming from or going, Drake, the cities' newest K-9, was called in to dig out the dope. "That particular dog we just got about a couple of weeks or a month ago." Within seconds, police say Drake signaled a presence of narcotics in the trunk. That's when detectives say Officer Penny found the drugs. "The officers on the scene recovered approximately 26 pounds of marijuana valued at 74-thousand dollars on the street."

Two teens were immediately taken into custody. Detective Dennis Waters says it was a major get. "It's pretty big. 26 pounds of marijuana that's a lot of marijuana and it was a good stop-a good bust."

Officer Penny arrested 18-year-old Dakota Jake Frase of Hixson and 18-year-old Preston Dale Steele of Cleveland. They're both charged with Possession of Marijuana for Resale and Criminal Conspiracy.
