I have a friend who is trying to stop taking glaucoma drops and switch to cannabis. Does anyone on here have any experience using cannabis to treat glaucoma. Mode of use? Strains to consider? Or just any other helpful info you can think of.
Thank you

Is glaucoma an inflammatory issue? I use cbd rich strains to treat inflammation effectively.
should start by trying a few cannabis infused drinks at different levels of thc and cbd to see what works best.

Well I'd start by smoking prior to meals . Or some other method to keep levels in the blood consistent.

I would think the tough part would be monitoring the pressure in your eyeball. I don’t think you can do it at home. Finding a doctor to work with you on this experiment will be next to impossible, but you never know. Might bring it up with them. I guess you could use weed in whatever form in conjunction with your glaucoma medicine in between check ups and see if the reading is lower than just on the medication at the next check up. Don’t want to make things worse experimenting. Good luck!

Thanks everyone, it looks like it is really difficult to manage with cannabis. A few Google searches told me it does lower eye pressure but only briefly, few hours at most. Even then it also constricts blood flow to the optic nerve, which might make things worse. Was really just curious if anyone here had tried it. Thanks for the input

According to Dr. Cooney, marijuana can create a 25 percent IOP reduction in 60 to 65 percent of people with or without glaucoma. What exactly causes this within the drug is unknown. The problem is that IOP reduction lasts from 3 to 3.5 hours.

To treat glaucoma effectively, IOP must be controlled around the clock, which likely leads to compliance issues. “You’d need to smoke eight to 10 marijuana cigarettes a day for them to have the same effectiveness as regular, glaucoma drops,” says Cooney.

"No problem there", says Peat Phreak. 😄

I have ocular hypertension. It's a precursor to glaucoma with a moderate IOP of 27ish instead of 20-22. The doctor's remedy is the same painful glaucoma drops. I tried that for a while. They are not comfortable.

Staying blazed 24/7 got me off the glaucoma drops tho. My slightly elevated IOP is normal when I'm high.

However, glaucoma has a much higher IOP and mismanaging it can lead to permanent blindness. I would not rely on cannabis for this.
