Hear comes the tribes.
California’s Pinoleville Pomo Nation is set to become the first Native American tribe to grow and sell marijuana on a large scale.
According to the AP, the tribe has a contract with Colorado-based United Cannabis and Kansas-based FoxBarry Farms to grow thousands of marijuana plants at its 99-acre rancheria just north of Ukiah, where they are currently building a $10 million indoor cultivation facility.

The announcement comes a month after the Department of Justice allowed tribes to cultivate and sell marijuana on their lands.

Pinoleville will be the first California tribe to build a cannabis grow facility, although two more are planned elsewhere in the state by both United Cannabis and FoxBarry.

“The tribes are just getting out ahead of the game,” Mendocino County Supervisor Dan Hamburg said.
