Metal halide bulb whistle?????

I have a quantum 600 watt switchable digital ballast at 50% running a victor or Ge 400 watt metal halide bulb in a sun system yield master 2 hood.
The bulb has this high pitch whistle to it. Is this normal ?

I'm pretty sure 50% is like 360 watts or so. And also do u think I can run a 1000 watt bulb in a 600 watt ballast?

I dont think whistling is normal. why dont u just get a 600w bulb or a new ballast instead of running a 1k or 400 on a 600? Im pretty sure you can run the 1k, itll only be @600w...obviously

Well I just got this ballast for cheap. And the bulb is a pretty darn old bulb. And I only mentioned the 1000 watt because my friend has one he will give me. Its like a high frequency sound. Like a tv turning on but higher. Maybe only I can read it.
